CHAPTER 23: When You Say Nothing At All

I woke up from coughing really hard and the worst part of it was I was tasting charcoal. Which I thought was weird.

I hear a male's voice talk to me from off to the side.

"That taste will go away in a week." The male said.

When I looked over to see who it was, I saw it was the pack doctor. I then started to sit up but soon realizes it hurt too much to. All my bones in my body felt as though they were burnt. So I layed back down.

"Where am I?" I ask.

"You're in your home. You need to rest and not to let anyone or anything touch you for a week. Otherwise, it'll feel like your body is on fire again and will take even longer for you and your wolf to heal properly." He says as he finishes up packing his things into his doctor's bag.

Which I didn't think people still had.

"Where is everybody? Where's my uncle?" I asked panicking.

"Calm down." He says as he rushes over and makes sure I lay back down and not move. "Your uncle and Darren's father have been taken to be judged in front of the Elders." He explains.

"Really? But I thought they wouldn't help us?" I asked confused.

"Yes well, it does help when you know the head Elder." He smiles and winks at me.

"Did you?" I began to ask and he just smiles even bigger to let me know he helped out.

"That'll be our little secret." He says. "Now get some rest. You'll see everyone soon." He tells me and then right as he gets up to leave, my eyes start to become very heavy until I finally close them and fall into a deep sleep.

The moment I opened my eyes, I started looking around the bedroom and noticed the sun was shining through the sheer curtains lighting up almost the entire room.

I expected to see Tasha, Zion and Darren here, waiting for me to wake up but, nobody  was in here. I did however, notice all the flowers and several gifts that I knew were from Darren. But where was everybody?

Is it selfish that I expected to see them all here?

I start to get up and notice that I feel a little bit of pain but not nearly as much as before. Then I start making my way out towards the hallway to see if I can see or at least hear anyone. But the moment I open up the door, I can't hear or see anybody.

I start to worry a little bit until I look out the corner of my eye and see a broad shouldered silhouette of what looked to be of a man. Then as soon as the person stepped forward into the little bit of light that was coming out from my bedroom, I gasped and froze in fear as I saw it was my uncle.

"No. This is a dream. It has to be. The Elders took you away." I began to say.

"They tried to, but obviously failed. Besides, you didn't think you could REALLY get rid of  me, did you?" He asks while tilting his head with his usual creepy grin.

"No! No! No! No! No!" I started to repeat while yelling it out.

Then I suddenly began to hear Darren calling out my name.

"Elona!" He says. "Elona!" He says again and his voice goes from starting off as being distant to sounding closer and louder.

Then I open my eyes quickly and realize it was all just a dream as I look over and see him looking at me worried.

"Oh my god. My uncle?!" I say out loud to him.

"It's okay. It was just a dream baby. You don't have to worry about him anymore." He says.

I close my eyes and try and calm myself down as I feel relieved that I don't have to worry about him anymore. Then I realize, it wasn't just him that we had to worry about.

"Well what about your dad...." I began but he stopped me.

"He's been taken care of too." He says with an upsetting look. Almost like he is sad?

"What happened?" I ask.

"They're both dead." He says.

"But I thought the Elders were going to take care of them?" I ask.

"They did. I was about to kill them both until the Elders came into the house and things went badly real quick and they made the decision to execute them both for all the wrong they did through all the years between you and me." He says.

"What about Mikaela?" I ask out of curiosity.

"She's dead too. Your uncle killed her." He says.

"Oh my god. So, they're all dead?" I ask for confirmation.

"Yeah. Your uncle and my father both fought against the Elders to where they had no other choice." He admits.

I couldn't believe it. My uncle, his father and my cousin were all dead. A part of me felt a little sad knowing that was the last of my family though at the same time, I am more glad that the Elders took care of them and not Darren. The consequences for doing something like that would have been unimaginable. You NEVER go against the Elders.

I suddenly noticed that Darren seemed upset a little as he started to try and reach out for my hand but stopped.

"What's wrong?" I asked him.

"It's just that it hasn't been an entire week like the doctor told me to wait and touch you and my wolf and I both are longing to touch you." He says sounding sad.

I start to smile and start reaching out my hand to take his.

"It's okay. I promise." I try to reassure him.

He hesitates but then slowly begins to reach out and starts touching my hand. Then as soon as he took my hand I immediately removed it while wincing and I regretted it right away when I saw how upset it made him.

"That's not funny!" He scowls at me.

"I'm sorry." I sincerely apologize to him. "You know the only thing that hurts worse to me is not having you beside me." I tell him as I start to tear up.

"Aw baby.." He says with falling tears.

"Please hold me." I tell him. "I promise it's okay." I try to reassure him. "The outside doesn't hurt anymore it's just the inside that's worse and that needs more time to heal. So as long as you don't squeeze me too tight, it's okay to hold me." I tell him while sniffling.

He stands up and removes his shirt and pants but stays in his boxers and gets underneath the covers while our eyes stay on each other's the whole time. Then he begins to scoot in closer to me and gently caresses the side of my face as we lay on our sides facing each other.

He gently begins to place his hand on my hips and then moves it slowly up towards my hand that's beside me and interlaces our fingers together.

Then we just laid there mouthing I love you while kissing each other a few times and just looking at one another until we finally fell asleep.
