Today Laurel was officially two months pregnant, not that she was really keeping tabs or anything, the only reason she remembered is because she put reminders on her phone for every month's appointment. She hadn't heard from her family since that night and she preferred it like that. She chose to just move on her life and do this. Just as she looked away from the notification on her phone, it started to ring.
Jason
"Laurel." He spoke, his voice sounding deep and tired.
"Yeah." she dragged the word.
"Listen, I don't think I am going to be able to come pick you up for your appointment today. Work is just crazy right now." he explained rushing through his words.
"Oh." she definitely didn't expect him to say that. She felt slightly disappointed.
"So I'm going to send my driver, Mike. I guess you remember him then I'll meet you over at the hospital. I hope that's fine by you." he spoke so fast that Laurel almost didn't catch what he was saying.
"Yeah, yeah its fine. See you then." There was some excitement in Laurel's voice. She was going to see him after all.
He hung up after. That was odd, she thought. Maybe he is really busy. He was acting weird that morning, his usually more invested in their phone conversations and she is the one who usually ends them short. She decided to rub it off as a work thing. Nothing more.
After getting prepared she went over to meet Ivy in their kitchen.
"Morning sexy mama." Ivy greeted with her with a wink. She was taking her cup of coffee.
"T'sup." Laurel replied with sarcasm joining her.
"Look at you all dressed up and ready to go for your appointment. Like a responsible pregnant lady. How do they grow up so fast?" Ivy pouted her lips at Laurel wiping away her fake tears.
Laurel couldn't prevent her eye roll, "It's just the second one and I still don't know what to expect. Last time it was just doing an actual blood test and answering countless questions."
"At least your sexy daddy will be there. You know I think about you sometimes and I'm like God doesn't it get awkward inside that room." Ivy trailed on. "You had sex, now you are having a baby but you are not really together and you who is carrying the baby, you're not going to keep it."
"First of all, stop calling him that and he is not coming to pick me actually. He is sending a driver." Laurel informed her looking around their counter for something to eat.
"A driver." Ivy smirked once again. "Oh how fancy!" She was definitely enjoying this.
There was a knock at the door before Laurel got to reply.
"Speak of the devil." Ivy sung.
"See you sweet cheeks." Laurel grabbed her bag and rushed to the door. She opened it to reveal a young man in a black suit.
"Hello there, Ms Edwards." He greeted her politely.
"Hey." She said to him then yelled, "Ivy, I'm off."
They walked to the car in silence. It was different from the one Jason usually shows up in. Even though she was being driven to the hospital and that Jason was going to be there she couldn't help notice his absence. The driver on the hand was being professional he didn't seem to want any small talk and Laurel was comfortable with that since she was horrible with meeting new people and she thought she is probably never going to see him again.
