(Y/n)'s POV

About a year ago, I was taken away by the government. They wanted me to "help them with a couple things". "Helping" them, in reality, was more like asking, "be our lab rat for dangerous experiments". They've been working on equipment to control different aspects of humans. My friend Dahyun was taken and had various tests done on her in order to let the government control her emotions. A boy named Jungkook was taken and has recently lost control of his movement. An acquaintance of mine, Changbin, was taken and is currently going through tests that will eventually make him lose his own original thoughts. All of these things are now controlled by the government. Dahyun will never know if what she is feeling is genuine or not. Jungkook will never be able to move any limb on his body on his own free will. Changbin, if all goes according to what the government wants, won't be able to ever think his own thoughts and ideas. As for me, the government controls my speech. I can have original thoughts and emotions, but I'll never be able to say anything the government doesn't pump into my head. Currently, I'm in the town, told to get some water for me, Dahyun, Jungkook, and Changbin.

"(Y/n), is that you?" My head whipped around towards the sound of the familiar voice. His face lit up. He started to sprint towards me.

No, Joshua, run away. Don't come near me. Please. His beautiful smile didn't drop from his face for even a fraction of a second.

"(Y/n)! What has it been now, a year?" He asked, giving me a big hug. My mouth moved without me even realizing it.

"Get off of me weirdo." My mouth said, though I didn't make any attempt to push him off. He pulled back slightly, as if startled.

"(Y/n)? You okay? You always used to love my hugs. And you're not pulling away." He stated, a bit of a pained look on his face. I still do love your hugs, I thought.

"You thought I loved them? You're dumber than I thought." It took me a minute to realize I had said something. I only noticed when his eyebrows furrowed and a tight frown followed.

"Ha ha (Y/n), very funny. Now cut it out. What's wrong with you today?" Joshua asked, pain drowning out the curiosity in his voice.

"What's wrong with you? Don't you realize that I left a year ago for a reason? Now get out of my sight." I caught that one loud and clear, my words echoing in my ears. I couldn't move my body. Joshua looked down at me in shock before his face turned void of any emotion.

"Ha, okay. I see how it is. And to think the girl I've loved for years now would turn out to be like this." He stated bitterly before walking away, not even sparing me a second glance. Tears welled up in my eyes as I stared blankly at his retreating back.

After my encounter with Joshua, the government decided to run some more tests on me. They wanted to control my movements so I wouldn't run into anymore old friends and have another 'friendly chat' with them. By the time the tests were complete, my body was numb. I couldn't move anything no matter how hard I tried. When I got back to the small shared house Dahyun, Jungkook, Changbin, and I lived in, all I received were sympathetic looks. Apparently Changbin's tests haven't been working out for the government lately, so they're keeping him in the house while they improve some stuff.

My legs moved on their own to bring me to my bed. While I laid in my bed, I noticed a stream of tears falling down my face.

"Wake up crybaby, we've got news for you and your friends." A guard yelled, shaking me from side to side. My eyes opened, waking up from my slumber. Yet again, my legs moved on their own as I followed the guard to the living room.

"Now, we're gonna do a little show and tell today. You four are going to be shown off in the town square. Some revolts have been rising up lately, so we want to... gently remind the people of what we're capable of. One wrong move from you twerps, and you will be killed on the spot, you hear me?" We all nodded slowly. The guard shoved Changbin and Dahyun out of the house, while Jungkook and I obediently followed. The guard led us to President Choi, who looked approvingly at us.

"Let's go." He said, a smirk adorning his sinister face. People of all ages were already lined up on the sidewalks, so I assume this event was already shared with everyone in the town. I saw some familiar faces in my peripheral vision, though I couldn't quite move my head in their direction.

After about a 5 minute walk, we arrived at the town square.

"Why hello everyone. I'm so glad you could make it. After recent events, the government has decided to show you all our latest projects in order to..." He continued talking, explaining why he was here, what he was experimenting with, and what he controlled about each of us. While he was mid-speech, a familiar face pushed his way to the front of the crowd.

"(Y/n)!" He screamed, tears rolling down his bruised cheeks. I assume he was punished for talking to me, even though he had no way of knowing what had happened to me. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I couldn't move, and I couldn't scream. President Choi smiled evilly. He motioned for a guard to pick up Joshua's weak, crying form. I was suddenly walking forward.

"Take these two for example. They've both loved each other for years now. Last year, when we took (Y/n) away, he was heartbroken, and she would lock herself up and cry for hours and hours. We now control her speech and movement. Watch this. He will tell her that he loves her, and she will respond by rejecting him and slapping him on the face." A guard poked Joshua with the sharp end of his spear lightly, prompting him to follow the president's wishes. More tears streamed down his face.

"(Y-y/n), I l-love you. So much." He sobbed. I felt my hand slowly move up. No, I couldn't slap him. I refuse. With all of my energy, I forced myself to keep my hand down. For a brief moment, as if President Choi's control over me disappeared, I was quickly able to lean up and kiss him.  I don't know how I did it, but it made the crowd gasp, while the president was furious. Joshua hugged me close and kissed back, knowing the consequences for doing this. I detached my lips from his just barely.

"I love you too." I said, before a sharp pain ripped through me. I screamed and fell to the ground. Blood raced out of my side, flowing endlessly. Joshua quickly fell down, cupping my face.

"(Y/n), no, stay with m-" And before he could finish, a gunshot was heard, and I looked to see blood starting to pour out from the area where his heart is.My eyes widened as I tried to reach out for him, to comfort him before he could fade away. My own pain was forgotten as I reached out to him, but before I could, I met my own demise.
