(Y/n)'s POV
"Ms. (L/n)? I have a question." One of my students, Sana, said with a hand raised high in the air.
"Yes?"
"For our essays, the prompt is if Romeo truly loves Juliet. The thing is, what is love? I mean, how would you describe it? You're asking a room full of teenagers about a feeling a lot of us don't know about." She asked. I smiled and thought of an all-too-familiar story.
"Good question. I think that instead of teaching you the rest of today's lesson, I'll tell you a story to answer your question." Everyone cheered at my words. I then had everyone gather to the front of the room.
"Okay. Once, there was a tall, funny, handsome boy. Let's call him Jun. He had just moved to South Korea from China, and only had one person he could properly communicate with. He wasn't fluent in Korean, which made it hard for him to go to school, especially because he was about to graduate high school. The person he could communicate knew basic Korean, since he was also from China. Let's call this guy The8."
"The8? That's a strange name." Tzuyu stated.
"Think of it as a cool nickname. Anyway, The8 would go everywhere with Jun to help him communicate with others. It was helpful that they almost had identical schedules. One day, The8 was sick, leaving Jun all alone to communicate. It was terrifying to him. While in the halls, he bumped into someone. He was so scared of messing up his Korean that he started to ramble on in his native language. Luckily, a girl who spoke his native language was there and was able to act as a translator.
"He thanked the girl for helping him and ended up hanging out with her for the rest of the day. After that, they started to hang out more. The girl was very ambitious. She wanted to become a famous idol, though knew deep down that she wouldn't be able to do that. She didn't really have any alternatives, and since she was graduating that year, she had to find something quickly. Luckily, she did. Her and The8 started to teach Jun Korean. She found out that she liked to tutor and teach others. So, that's what she did. She ended up going to the same college as Jun, though The8 went somewhere else. The girl and Jun got closer to each other in college. That's when they both fell for each other. Each time they saw each other, it was as if millions of fireworks exploded inside of them. Each time they looked into each other's eyes, they fell in love even more. They knew they loved each other. It was something that they had never felt before. It was so new and yet so obvious that it wasn't just some silly crush. It was unmistakably love. During their second year of college, the girl mustered up the courage to ask him out."
"The girl asked the guy?" Chaeyoung asked. I nodded my head.
"Yes. The girl can make the first move too. Not just the guys." I explained. I caught her look back at Eunwoo, who was looking back at her. They both blushed, and I smiled at the young romance.
"As I was saying, she asked him out, and, of course, he said yes immediately. They went on dates, spent late nights watching movies, talking, and all sorts of other things that couples do. Nothing could break them apart. That is, until something did." I looked at my students to see all of them on the edge of their seats. Just as I was about to continue, the bell rang. A couple students that were obviously disinterested left, but majority of the students stayed.
"Don't you guys wanna go home? The school day ended." I told them. Many of them just shook their heads.
"We wanna hear the rest of the story." Mina said from the back of the class. I just smiled and continued.
"During the last year of college, Jun got a call from his parents. He was to come home as soon as he was finished with college to be married to someone. It was an arranged marriage. He argued that he had already found the love of his life, but his parents were having none of that. He argued that he didn't have to follow their rules anymore since he was grown up, but apparently, his parents had managed to get him to sign the marriage contract when he was younger. Jun was heartbroken with all of this news. He went to the girl and cried, telling her everything. Soon, she joined him in the sobbing. Sadly, he did have to go back to China, since he signed a legal document and could be in a heap of legal trouble if he didn't leave. The couple shared one last goodbye, hug, kiss, and 'I love you', before they broke up and left each other's lives. They were truly heartbroken." I finished. Some of the more emotional students were tearing up.
"That was you, wasn't it?" Jihyo asked quietly. I nodded.
"But that's so sad. If you don't mind me asking, why aren't you sadder telling the story?" Dahyun asked. I smiled at the thought of me and Junhui, but then thought of something else.
"Because there's one thing about love that's astonishing." I said, thinking back to a couple months ago.
"(Y/n)?!" A familiar voice called out. I looked around and saw his face. I ran over to the park bench he was sitting on. He quickly jumped to his feet, opening his arms wide.
"Minghao!" I yelled as I lept into his embrace. We hugged for a couple minutes before letting go of each other and catching up. We spent the day talking and walking around the mall.
"So, you're telling me that you're single?!" He asked in pure shock. I nodded.
"It's true! Ever since..." I trailed off, thinking of Junhui. My vision became blurry with tears. Minghao's eyes widened as he wrapped his arms around me and rubbed my back soothingly. I buried my head into his shoulder, letting the tears fall out. I told him all about me and Junhui. He just frowned throughout the story and continued to comfort me. When I finished, it felt like a heavy, sorrowful weight was lifted off of my shoulders. He took one of my hands in his.
"Thank you for telling me all that. You don't have to worry about keeping this all to yourself anymore. Know that I'll always be here for you from now on. No matter what." He told me sincerely. A familiar feeling ignited in my stomach.
"There's enough love in you to give to other people. That's what's so astonishing about love. You can get your heart stomped on and ripped to shreds, but someone else will eventually come along and work their hardest to patch up your heart. It's always possible to find love again." I finished telling my students.
