(Y/n)'s POV
"Are you sure you can handle this?" Irene asked me, finishing my makeup. I gave her the side eye.
"I've never failed to complete a mission in my life. I'm not going to fail now." I told her.
"I know, but this is the king. It's going to be impossible to get him alone. He'll be guarded the whole time."
"And that's why I will be going for the prince. He won't be as heavily guarded. I can either seduce him or kidnap him, and then get to the king through him. Plus, will the prince really mind? I mean, the whole kingdom knows Prince Guanlin resents his step-father. I'm sure I could just tell him I'm here to kill him, and he would reward me." Irene rolled her eyes.
"Just be careful. I know you have quite the history with his guard." It was my turn to roll my eyes.
"You mean the one who has thwarted every attempt I've made to kill the king? And used to personally hunt me down? He shouldn't be a problem. He received a letter yesterday night that his family needed him. I saw him leave immediately. He shouldn't be back to the castle for another two days." I informed her. She gave me a high five before telling me to stand up.
"Let's see how you look."
I stood up and looked into the mirror in front of me. My hair was dyed black and was slightly wavy. It cascaded down my shoulder, bringing my attention to my dress. It was beautiful, with black lace and lavender fabric. I wore simple black heels, and had a knife strapped to my thigh.

"You look stunning." Irene told me. I smiled, thanking her for getting me ready. I then got into the carriage that Seulgi "borrowed" from the neighboring kingdom. For the night, I would be Princess Mina, the 6th in line for the throne. The real Princess Mina was in her kingdom, completely unaware of the ball being thrown.
"Wendy and Joy are going to be there, undercover, just in case anything goes wrong." Seulgi told me as we arrived at the castle.
"I'll be here with the carriage around three in the morning. That should give you plenty of time. Now go, you're already late." I said my goodbye before leaving the carriage and making my way up the stairs to the castle. Once at the doors, I gave the guards "my" invitation and went inside. Waltz music wafted through the hallways. Guards lined the hallways, showing me where to go while defending the castle from intruders. Soon, I was faced with a large door. Two men stood there, stacks of name cards in their hands.
"Ah, you must be Princess Mina." One said. I bowed, giving an excuse for my tardiness.
"The ball has only just begun, there night is still young." The other man told me. They then opened the doors as the current song ended. I kept my head high as I walked into the ballroom and descended the stairs. In the middle of the floor, I saw Prince Guanlin, just as I was expecting.
What I was not expecting, however, was the captain of the royal guard to be right next to him. My worst enemy stood there, a smirk on his perfect face. I had sworn that I saw him leave the night prior, yet here he was. I kept my surprise hidden as I finally finished walking down the steps. I bowed to the crowd, and everyone continued with their business. The prince, on the other hand, walked right up to me. He took my hand in his and gave it a kiss.
"Hello, I am Prince Guanlin. What beautiful name was bestowed upon the beautiful princess in front of me?" He asked flirtatiously. I had to refrain from rolling my eyes. Instead, I put on the dumb princess facade and started batting my eyelashes and giggling.
"I'm Princess Mina." I simply replied. Before Guanlin could say anything more, the captain came up to us.
"Who is this?" He asked, though he already knew who I was.
"This is Princess Mina." Guanlin introduce. I bit my tongue and held my glare inside as I bowed down to him.
"Is that so?" He asked, his smirk still on his face. "I'm Daniel, captain of the royal guard." His smooth voice was filled with arrogance and mischief. He was one of the only people who knew my true identity, yet he didn't alert the royals or other guards of my presence. When Guanlin turned around, I gave him a quizzical look. He just smirked and left me alone with the prince. Naturally, Guanlin offered to dance with me. I danced throughout the night, occasionally switching partners, but ultimately ending up with the prince. Even so, as the clock struck midnight, the king requested Guanlin's presence. With a roll of his eyes and a promise of return, he left to the crown room. I was going to follow him, but a wall of bachelor princes blocked my way. I hadn't realized how much attention I had drawn to myself until that moment. Each prince offered to dance, but I politely declined, trying to weave my way through the crowd as inconspicuously as possible. However, just as I got out of the crowd, Daniel stepped in front of me. Behind him, a couple royal guards stood in their positions, looking curiously between the two of us.
"Going somewhere Princess?" I mentally sighed, knowing Daniel wouldn't let me through.
"It's funny how a princess, such as yourself, would deny all of those handsome princes. A bit suspicious, really." He continued, evidently pleased with himself for tormenting me.
Just as he was about to continue, another prince came up and asked to dance with me. I accepted, noticing the glare Daniel sent the prince as he took me onto the dance floor. I danced with this prince until the music called for a change in partners. I was passed from prince to prince until I was on the outskirts of the dance floor. I switched partners once more and found myself in the captain's arms. He pulled me to the shadows of the ballroom, still dancing. I looked around, and no one was paying any attention to us. As the music finished, he dipped me down. However, instead of pulling me back up afterwards, his hand touched my leg and glided upwards, hiking up my dress. I didn't move, unsure of what the captain was playing at. Slowly, his hand stroked my inner thigh, finding my dagger. My breath hitched a bit as he removed the dagger from its sheath and took it out from under my dress. Finally, he pulled me up, the same hot, annoying smirk on his face.
"How about I make you a deal," he whispered, lifting up my chin with the tip of the dagger. "I won't tell anyone about who you are and why you came here tonight..." He trailed off, his eyes glancing towards my lips.
"What's the catch?" I asked quietly, though I already knew what was coming.
"You're mine for tonight." He whispered into my ear. Shivers went down my spine. His hand trailed down to my lower back, pulling me closer to him while nibbling on my ear.
"Do we have a deal?" He asked lowly. As much as I hated him, I couldn't deny that he was incredibly sexy. I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about this happening before.
"Yes." I whispered, and he pulled me out of the ballroom and into his quarters.
