(Y/n)'s POV
I don't trust others. People are cruel, selfish, greedy, and corrupt. They take, and take, and take, but they never give back. I've learned to never expect anything from others, and, in return, nothing can hurt me. Humans just end up messing things up. They complicate things. Their emotions make them do irrational things, and they don't think about anyone but themselves. I live a happy life; I'm finishing my last year of college, I work at a five star restaurant as a waitress by day and at a hospital as a receptionist by night, and I still manage to get straight A's.
"Good afternoon (Y/n)!" One of my co-workers greeted when I arrived at the restaurant. He's a couple years older than me, and he's one of the main chefs here.
"Good afternoon Minho." I replied, sending him a small smile.
"Go get your uniform on. Our manager is having our daily meeting earlier than usual today." I thanked him for the information and went inside to get changed. I made my way down to the lobby just in time for the meeting. All of the hosts, chefs, and waiters lined up, ready to have their uniforms inspected. It was something our manager checked every day to make sure we upheld the restaurant's polished reputation. He went down the line, giving a curt nod to each employee, fixing things if necessary. When he got to me, one of his eyes twitched.
"Your collar isn't properly folded. It looks messy." He spat. I looked down at my uniform and looked at everyone else's uniform. Mine was just fine.
"Excuse me sir, but my collar is folded just like everyone else's." I informed him, my face void of emotions.
"Are you talking back to me? If I say something, then that is the truth! Do you want to drag this restaurant's reputation in the mud?! No? Then fix your collar!" He yelled before walking away. Most of the employees started to snicker at me. I stood tall, not moving from when he yelled at me. Minho quickly made his way over to me and asked if I was alright.
"That was too far, over something so silly." He reassured me. He then looked at my collar and mumbled something about it looking just fine to him.
"I'm fine, really. You should get to your post before he starts raging about you too." I said lightly, my face still level.
"Ah, so this is a joke to you Ms. (Y/n)? My office, after your shift is done." I heard my manager growl from behind me. I deflated and quickly made my way to my post, not wanting to get yelled at any more today. When the restaurant opened, I quickly started tending to the tables, taking orders, and delivering the food. When I walked into the kitchen after the lunchtime rush, I overheard some of my co-workers talking.
"Honestly, she's so uptight. She's a prick and she isn't even that pretty. It's like she's a mindless robot. I bet she'll end up overworking herself for the rest of her life, forever alone." Mina, another waitress, said. I knew she was talking about me, but I didn't really care. She always says things like that about me. What surprised me was what I heard next.
"You can't say shit about her. All you do is talk behind her back when you don't even know her. She's hardworking because she knows that good things come to those who work for it. She's easily one of the best people I know, so I suggest shutting your mouth." Minho scolded. His words took a minute to sink in, but once they did, a small smile appeared on my lips. While I normally try to barricade myself from emotions, Minho has always made me feel... something. No matter how much I try to deny it, Minho is one of the closest people to me, and one of the only humans who is an exception to the whole "selfish, greedy, cruel" concept. Even so, I continue to deny it, because emotions can cause pain. Especially whatever I'm feeling towards Minho.
