Lauren's POV

I sit at Lisa's bedside, just listening to the sound of the machine breathing for her, and watching the heart monitor. I rest my hand on top of hers, and let my gaze drift to her face.  This still doesn't feel real, it feels like a nightmare, like if I could just wake up, everything would be okay. But everything isn't okay. Lisa is hurt, she has been hurting, and none of us helped her. I didn't try hard enough, I should of made her talk to me.

We all sit there for about an hour, being quiet so Mom doesn't wake up. That's when I see Lisa's face change. She seems to grimace, and then starts coughing. Amy runs out to tell a nurse, and I try to get Lisa to stop coughing. Mom wakes up, and hurries to the bedside. Dr. Wesley comes in with a few others, and they tell us to back up.

One of them, a young woman, says, "She seems to be breathing over the tube, we should take it out now."
The rest nod, and pretty soon they are taking it out. I wince in sympathy, because it looks pretty painful. Soon, Lisa's coughing stops. The doctors talk together for a bit before Dr. Wesley turns to us.

She then looks at us all for a second and says, "Okay, now that we have the tube out and she is breathing on her own, we are debating taking her off the sedatives. For her own safety, we are going to have to put her in restraints. They won't hurt her, but they will stop her from pulling her IV out or hurting herself and others. We'd have her psychiatric doctor, Dr. Hannah Richards, here to evaluate her as well. Unfortunately, only one person from your family can be in the room when she wakes up, any questions?"

We all look at each other, and then Christina clears her throat.

Christina's POV

I wait till the doctor is looking at me before asking my question, "How long until she can get out of here, and what will we need to do to help her? Should she go to an inpatient program?"

Dr. Wesley answers me calmly, "Well, physically speaking we could discharge here tomorrow, but because she has hurt herself, we are going to have to wait for a 72 hour psych evaluation before we can decide what to do. If all goes well, she will be transferred to the psych ward tomorrow, and the evaluation should be over three days after that. After that, we can discuss her options and treatment plan. During the evaluation, she can only have one visitor at a time, and only immediate family members. They will be observed visits, and she will be under 24 hr observation and a suicide watch."

I nod in answer, disappointed that this is going to take so long, but also glad that they are taking this so seriously.

Mom seems to think for a minute, before nodding and saying, "Wake her up, I'll stay here."

Dr. Wesley agreed, and then one of the nurses paged Dr. Richards.

It is finally time to wake up Lisa.
