Numb

Chapter 5

Christina's POV

At 6:30 we all head down to the kitchen to eat. Katherine volunteered to cook. She said she is making pasta. We all sit at the table and goof around for a few minutes, until I realize someone is missing. Where is Lisa? I think for a bit, and realize I haven't seen her for around three hours. She has just been in her room alone for a while. And I know she didn't eat much today...I think I should go check on her, make sure she isn't sick or something.

I let Amy know where I am going, and then walk up the stairs quietly. Once I am up there, I walk to Lisa's door and realize I can hear something. It almost sounds like someone crying? I knock. Lisa says, "Just a minute." She sounds weird. Then she opens the door, her eyes are a little red and she is pale. "Are you okay?" I ask, concerned for my little sister. She nods and looks at the ground. "You don't seem okay Lise, were you crying?" Her eyes flash up to meet mine, and for a second I think I see deep sadness, until they seem to harden. "I'm fine Christina! I'm not hungry. Stop bugging me!!" She says angrily, and slams the door in my face.

I am really concerned now, she only gets like this if something is really wrong. I don't know what to do though, so after knocking a few more times, she doesn't respond, I head back downstairs. The girls look at me. Lauren asks, "What was that noise, and was that Lisa yelling?" I nod, still confused and worried. "Lisa slammed her door, she won't let me back in, seems to be kind of angry." Lauren looks worried, then gets up and heads upstairs. We all watch her go, but she comes back a few minutes later, almost in tears. Dani asks her what is wrong, but Lauren just shakes her head and says to leave Lisa alone for now.

The pasta is done, and we all grab a plate. I look at the extra food, and think about Lisa, she's barely eaten all day, she has to be hungry! I should take up a plate for her. Or maybe not, she seems mad at me right now. Katherine seems to read my mind, she puts a portion of the food in the fridge and writes, 'Lisa's supper' On it. I hear my Mom pull up out front, and say goodbye to Dani and Lauren. It is already 8:00, Katherine, Amy, and I go to the living room. We all sit staring at each other until Amy breaks the silence.

"Something is going on with Lisa, she made Lauren cry, and you didn't look great after talking to her either Christina!" Amy says.

"I know, when I walked up there I heard her crying, so I knocked and asked if she was okay, when she answered she said she was fine, but when I told her I heard her, she got mad." I reply. "I am not sure what happened with Lauren though."

Katherine says. "Well, maybe it is just a rough day, we can check back with her tomorrow, okay?"

We all nod in agreement and head to our bedrooms.
