Chapter 28

AN- Look, I did it! Two chapters in two days, that's some kind of record for me! It is summer break now, so I should be able to update more often!

Christina's POV

I wait anxiously, staring at the door from my slumped position on the floor. The door opens, and I quickly stand up, but it's only Mom. She is crying, but gives us a quick smile to try to reassure us. I walk up and give her a hug. She hugs me back for a few seconds, then pulls back and gestures to the rest of my sisters. They all get up and follow her to the other side of the hallway. She seems to brace herself, then starts speaking.

"Okay, first off, Lisa is okay. She is doing just fine, and they are taking good care of her. She had a bit of a scare for a while, because she didn't know where she was or why she was restrained. We did get her to calm down, and the doctors are talking to her right now."

I let out a shaky breath, and nod. Katherine puts her hand on Mom's shoulder and asks a question, "What did Lisa say?"

Mom hesitates for a second, before replying, "She didn't say anything. She can't speak yet, the swelling near her vocal chords is compromising her ability to speak."

We all gasp, and Amy immediately says, "She can't talk?! Does that mean she can't talk for a long time? Will she get better?!"

Mom holds up a hand as we all start to ask questions along that vein, and says, "It is just temporary, the doctors think they can get her speaking in a few hours actually. Don't worry about that."

We all stop talking, and process what she said. As we are thinking, Dr. Wesley came through the door along with another female doctor. We all immediately turn towards them, and Dr. Wesley starts speaking.

"We have finished our examination, someone will be in to check on Lisa every 30 minutes. For now, she has allowed you to come into the room."

The other doctor starts talking now, "Please do your best to keep from upsetting her, if you start to have trouble just call a nurse, they will know what to do or will be able to page one of us. Remember, she can't speak yet. So don't overwhelm her with too many questions, only yes or no questions as well. Just let her know you are here for her, that's all you can do right now."

We all agree eagerly, desperate to see Lisa. Finally, they walk away, allowing us to go in the room.

Lisa's POV

I stare at the doorway after the doctors walk through, wondering how long it will take for my family to get here. I stare at the wall for a few minutes, but when I hear the door start to open my head turns towards the doorway to see who is coming in.

I watch as Mom opens the door, and then all of my sisters troop in after her. I watch as tears fill their eyes, they all stare at me, seeming to be in shock.

Christina rushes over to the bed, reaching down to wrap her arms around me. It's a little awkward, since I can't move my arms, but she doesn't seem to care. She is sobbing, and it makes me start to cry too. Eventually, she gets up and allows everyone else to come up to me.

The rest of my sisters walk up to me, well, everyone except Lauren. Katherine strokes my hair, while Dani holds one of my hands and Amy holds the other, reassuring themselves that I'm still here I guess. Christina sits on the end of the bed near my feet, and Mom takes one of the chairs on the side of the room. I look at Lauren, and my heart breaks. Her eyes are full of pain, betrayal, and sadness. She looks so broken, and all I want to do is hug her, but I can't.

I meet her eye, and mouth "I'm sorry" to her, hoping that she will know what I'm saying. She stares at me for a moment, before sighing and walking over beside Dani. She drags a chair over and sits down. I try to smile at her, and she tries to smile back, but we both can tell it's fake.

As my family surrounds me, I start to think. When I did this to myself, I didn't think they'd care this much. I knew they'd be a little upset, but I didn't think it would cause them so much pain. I only wanted to take the pain away, not cause even more...
