Literature was something that always had your interest as a young girl. You would eat breathe and sleep books. Just the mere writing of a work fiction was bliss as your fingers traced the delicate pages.
You loved books so much you basically surrounded your life full of them. You paid no attention to the kids your age and you took no heed of the guardians around. For you, books were entire your world because the stories led you somewhere amazing and someplace you wanted to be. It was a place for you to escape.
You had never realized when the day you turned 18 after a few years of working and studying all the books at the village library, would you be selected to be the keeper of the Ancients.
The day the elders came to you you were finishing the last page of your favourite piece. You closed the book with a pleased look on your face and admired the covers title.
You turned your head, noticing the approaching elders and face turned to one of uninterest.
The stood before as the one in the middle took a step forward and spoke.
"You are the Apprentice librarian here named y/n?"
"I am, to what do I owe the visit of three of the six elders?" you responded with lack luster grace.
"We have a proposition, that would interest a book lover such as yourself" they all smiled.
Although if you had to recall that time they had more of a mischievous grin on their faces. But, the offer of a lifetime a books blinded you to their true intentions.
You accepted with no questions asked and they lead you to what was called the little Ratu of Ancients. You heard about it, read as much you could about it in the library you worked in but it had only so much I formation on it.
But here you were, lucky enough to be selected to be the keeper as they called it. The moment you walked in through those doors was the last time you would see the outside world.
You spent months reading books, it's quantifying amount of knowledge feeding your starved curiosity. Time often escaped you when you were caught up in books, it wasn't surprising really but you realized it had been some time since you stretched your legs and took a walk outside. You stood away from your mountain of books and walked towards those giant doors. You gave it a push but it didn't budge, then you gave it a knock but there was no answer.
You felt panic begin to rise as you called out to receive no answer. You spent days upon days trying to leave the library but the doors never budged. You gave up on retreated to books. You continued to read and as you read you wept.
You did not know you would throwing the world outside away just for knowledge that was kept secret in this place. Because in truth, you had wanted to socialize with others but they kept their distance and you kept your books.
You were lonely before. Just reading books but now you were even more lonelier with books and time in your hands.
....
I wasnt sure how much time passed. Probably enough for me to read the entire library three times over and I supposed would be the forth. You'd think someone like me would've tired of reading after all this time, to be honest I am. But if I were to stop reading, to turn away from these books then the world would come crashing down around as I open my eyes to my reality.I turned a page once more, just the very sounds of paper peeling off of one another was the only grace of music I could have play in my ears.
I turned to the next page, I was on the last chapter, there would be no point in reading it as I could memorize everything, up to the end and their very last touching words. Even their first greetings which were as simple as-
