TWO WORLDS

I count and wait for the sound of something hitting the ground. I hear nothing yet all I can do is stare below into the depths that seemed bottomless.

I grabbed another rock and dropped it down below again and I began the process of counting all over again.

I stopped counting and sat back. I wondered what I would do. I had been sitting here in this spot for two days unsure of what action to take. I orginally came here with 5 others but they are gone now, down below. I don't know what I should do...after all I was supposed to be keeping an eye on them. If I returned now everyone would blame me, they would get rid of me.

In this world, it is barren and resources are hard to come back. The only place that has enough resources to fill a town of people is here at the edge of the world as we call it.

Years ago back when humans traveled in search of a better place to live where we could thrive. They discovered a small lush forest. Thinking they could finally live happily they set their homes in the forest, feeding off of it's fruits and water.

However after a while they began to notice slowly others were going missing. It wasn't until the leaders daughter finally disappeared that everyone began a search party. In their long and tiring search they found no trace of the daughter but something else more terrifying.

It was like the world stopped right there, you could not see below and you could not see ahead. There was nothing on the other side of that forest, except a bottomless chasm. They tried calling out in hopes of receiving a response. But as you called into the chasm your voice disappeared.

The leader sterred everyone away from the edge and decided to try looking else where. But it did not matter, they searched far an wide as the forest took them and there was no sign of her. In the end it was deemed she fell to its depths.

The leader in his despair cried days and nights. He mourned for his only child and everyone pitied and left him alone. However, people continuously began to disappear. It was then decided that they would no longer stay in the forest. Gathering everyone they left the forest to live in the barren lands, however staying in a close enough vincinity, to take whatever resources was needed.

They warned us that the forest was dangerous, that going at the edge we would go missing and never return. We did not believe it, but at the same time we were cautious enough.  However, this time around we were unlucky.

I had finally reached the age to lead a group on my own, and as such I was given the responsibility to supervise and direct the 5 who were younger than me. We were not far apart in ahe. The youngest was two years younger and the other three were the same age as me but my birthday came before there's.
