Blaire's POV
"Hey, come with me to the meeting," he said, putting on Beatles polo.
"What? What shall I do there? It's a team meeting right," I said poking up my head from my history textbook.
"Come with me. You have never seen the basketball stadium before."
"Oh-kay captain," I said, putting on my flip-flops.
I followed him out of the hostel and fell in step beside him on the wide stony pavement.
"How about we walk to school from now on," he asked, "I mean it's a little distance you see, walking for ten to fifteen minutes isn't that bad," he shrugged.
"But why shall we? We can just drive from hostel to school parking in like two minutes," I arched an eyebrow at him.
"Exactly. Exactly, that is what I'm saying. Instead of two minutes in the car, we can easily spend twenty minutes together."
"Christian, even stupidity has a limit," I retorted, "you spend every damn freaking day with me, every day. In school, gym, library, field and even in the room."
He passed a goofy smile, passing a hand through his hairs. We finally reached the building and went downstairs. The basketball stadium was the basement of the extra curriculum building. I wondered why I hadn't entered the basement of this building before? We always took the stairs which were just before the stadium and went to the cafeteria on the first floor.
We stepped in the mild body adjusting temperature, neither too hot nor too cold and it was huge. The court was as usual but the seating arrangement, woah! It was gigantic. I asked Chris the seating capacity of the stadium and he said it's around 7200 approximately.
"Seriously?"
"Yeah," his eyes roamed around the place, "Unbelievable right? I know."
"That's why the district championships are held here," he added.
James entered with around twenty-five more boys and ten of them were really new to the place and the atmosphere as well, as their faces said. I took a seat in a corner chair. Christian stood there, as everyone lined up.
"James, Mark, Marcus, Joseph," Coach called out and they joined Chris by his side.
"Boys, we have just got three days, we shall prepare ourselves for both the best and the worst. We aren't going to be in the championship to defend our trophy but we are there to lift it again," Coach said to the boys.
"This is your captain, Christian Woods," he said, patting Chris's shoulder who was standing by his side.
Determination and dedication sparkled in each one's eyes. He really was a good captain. I stared at him as he started planning up strategies. James handed him a paper and Chris gave a look throughout. He turned to the twenty boys waiting and called out their names.
"Guys, you can see our current basketball team," Chris directed to his boys, "It's the strongest team, but still we need some of you in case any of us get injured and miss out a game. I'll choose the best six among you 'cause the champions deserve the best. So we need the best of you, who will be able to give their best in the real game. Who'll be dedicated towards the team and determined to win. We will not be there to make others lose, rather we'll be there to score a win for ourselves," Christian clapped his hands twice as a signal to get ready.
Each of them had to face a one to one match against anyone from the team, the coach declared. Each of them was told to snatch the ball and move forward with it, defend the ball and finally basket it. I have never seen Chris play before. But he had a class and I knew right away why girls were mad about him and were always heels on toes for him. Six boys whom Chris tested, none were able to snatch the ball from him neither defend it nor basket it. He's right, the current team was strong, very strong. Finally, eighteen of them were named and others were let go. The coach scheduled their next tryout and let them go but the most dangerous part is even the current team will have to face the tryouts even if they are best and that'll be on the last stage of the tryouts.
