“Come on, Willy. Faster.”

All the three girls from my team cheered behind. I was the last swimmer of the relay race and I knew how much the results depended on me. Being the captain of my team, I need to learn to take the pressure. Moreover, I couldn't in any way let Della and her girls win. My butterfly strokes went stronger and faster as I strolled faster through the water and finally touched the wall just a second before Della did.

I knew how much spice it'd add to our rivalry and ignite it even more but I couldn't put our win on the stake for the sake of ending just a high school rivalry. This is a sport that has always fascinated me and that is why I loved the summer months. Everyone came by and congratulated on our win. This is a thing about relay race; everyone has got to give in equal efforts and the same level of coordination or you lose.

Well, I'm Blair Willy and I'm a simple high-schooler like everyone else around here in Evergreen High. No, not exactly your image of a 'simple high-schooler' with cool friends and a freaking awesome boyfriend. Absolutely not. It's a girls school and I have got some arrogant chicks who hate me as well as some jealous chicks who obviously hates me too, except my fantastically awesome best friend, Lily and some people whom I can consider friends.

Well, my mom is a fashion designer and dad has a job in a different state so most of the time it's me and lily, and we were closer than anybody could ever imagine. We aren't best friends, we are soul sisters. She's my partner in crime, sorrows, happiness and everything one can have in life. We also have a part-time job at a small departmental store which we got a year ago when we were promoted to sophomore year. As for Lily, she stayed with her grandmother and mother. Her dad passed away a few years back so it was very crucial for her to get herself a part-time, in which she dragged me too.

After the competition, I drove back home with her. Tonight is the party that Cassie; who is supposedly the richest in this block and belonged from our relay team too, threw to celebrate our win. Not like we're having any banquets and all, just a party that some fifteen-sixteen-year-old kids who just ended their sophomore year can have. But the saddest thing is we have our duty tonight and the owner and his wife are both bitches who wouldn't give us even one day off neither would allow us to leave early without completing our shift. Extending our curfew deadline, we got ready to hit the pedal.

“Let's get going, Blaire,” Lily screamed from down the hall.

“Sure. I'm coming.”

Now let us come in present and I'll rewind back to how that night started.

We got off the car and bid Mom goodbye. Time was passing slowly that day. There were few customers scattered over who came and went as the time passed. Our shift was nearing its end when a guy, tall and slender entered the store. The skin-tight v-neck polo clung itself to every curve of his body. While my mind took off, wandering in thoughts, my eye's traced his movements. I doubted his age to be same as ours or a year or two more.  It's not like I fell for every hot teen that walked through that glass door, but yet it was different. My illusionary world kicked me out and I found myself in an embarrassing spot when he stood right before me and had to cough a time or two to get my attention. I glanced at Lily over the counter and she was showcasing an absolute evil smile.

All of it may sound pointless, it wasn't any different for me even. I have always thought there was a lot of time and we would have a lifetime for exploring everything. Now I wonder what if we could just skip that time or what if we didn't go to the store that night? With time, I have learnt that there will always remain a lot of what-ifs in our lives. Only if I'd known that nothing in this world is meant to last forever, maybe things would go a little easy on me. That night I realised, how time has planned everything for us in advance. No matter what we do, his plans aren't going to fail. His cards are going to turn in any moment. I wish I'd known what that night had in store for us...
