Just A Victim Part 26

SUDDENLY, a dog barked behind them. Haruki broke away from him and faced the dog. “Hi, Light!” she greeted.

The dog wagged its tail.

“Wanna go somewhere?” Holton asked. Haruki and Light turned their heads to his direction with excitement painted on their faces.

“Why not?” she answered while Light barked.

“Then let’s go!”

“Oh! Wait, I’ll just change my clothes.” she said as she point out her dirtied blouse.

“Why don’t you just go for a shower and I’ll do the same?” he suggested.

“Okay.” she said then went inside her room. Holton, on the other hand, hurried back to his room along with Light. First, he gave his dog a refreshing bath. Then he let it rest on a carpet and get back inside the bathroom. He took off his clothes and throw it on a bin. Then he turn the handle and feel the cold water flow down his body. He put some shampoo on his palm and rub it to his hair.

Meanwhile, Haruki felt a weird energy from the chamber she was in. It’s as if there is someone else inside other than her. She gulped then took a few steps forward.

The energy gets stronger and her heart beats’ pounding faster and louder with every move. She could feel her muscles tense. It seems like she’s getting closer to that someone. “Hello? Anybody here?” she asked. There’s no response. At the back of her mind, she thinks that she’s starting to get crazy and starts exaggerating stuffs. Because it’s like she was just talking to the wind. Gee. “Whoever you are, will you please let yourself be visible because I’m not that sure if I really am talking to someone.”

In a split second, a face appeared right in front of her. She was shocked that she stepped back but ended up stumbling on the floor. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to balance herself in time and hit her head on the hard surface. She’s lying there with her eyes closed. She’s still breathing but didn’t move. It seemed like she’s unconscious.

Few seconds later, she opened her eyes and help herself to stood up. “Okay, what was that?” Haruki asked herself then shrugged at the thought of what happened earlier. She just patted her cheeks lightly to wake herself up. “I better take a bath and refresh myself.” she said as she walked towards the bathroom. She gave herself a stinging bath.

Once she’s done, she got out of the room and saw Holton leaning against a wall. Once he saw her, his face lighten up. His smile showed off his set of white teeth and his eyes seemed to glitter. Ba-dump. She held her chest. Okay what was that, she thought.

“Why? Any problem?” he asked. Concern was painted on his face.

“No-nothing. Where are we going anyway?”

He smiled. “You’ll see.” he said as he reach for her hand.

She glanced at their entwined hands then back at him.

“Get ready.”

“Huh?” she innocently asked.

He didn’t utter a word and started to run through the dark hallway, down the staircase and out of the mansion. They run straight through the thick forest. She looked back and saw that Light is following behind.

“Look to where you’re running or you’ll trip yourself.” Upon hearing what Holton said, she immediately turn her head back towards the path.

It seems like it’s a never ending forest. She can’t see the mansion in sight anymore. Where are they going? “Holton, are you sure that we’re taking the right path? Because it seemed like we’re getting lost.” she muttered.

“Lost? Of course not! I know this place very well.” Seconds later, he stopped.

She stopped running as well as Light. “See? We’re lost!” she exclaimed. She’s starting to worry. What if they didn’t find the way back? It seemed like they’re in the middle of the forest. What if won’t be able to go back before it gets dark? There might be wild beasts around that might eat them. She felt shivers ran down her spine, her legs were trembling.
