THE next day…

The sun is showing off its light. Haruki was at her mother’s garden, watering the plants. She was even humming a tune.

Suddenly, she heard a bark meters away. At first, she ignored it. However, it kept on barking. She put down the sprinkler and searched for the dog by following its sound. The lass ended up at the backyard.

There, she saw a dog with golden hair. It barked enthusiastically as she stepped near to it. Then, it jumped on her, making her lose her balance.

“Whoa!” She fell on the grass with the dog on top of her. It’s waggling its tail. It seemed like the dog recognizes her. In a split second, she was able to identify it too.

“Light!” she called.

It barked as if it agreed on what she said.

“What are you doing here?”

It didn’t whine or anything. It just jumped off of her and started running away.

“Hey, wait!” Our of curiosity, she started following it though she had no idea where its heading to.

Minutes had passed when it finally stopped along the street. She was on her knees, gasping for air. “Okay… Thank you for stopping. Where are you going, huh? You just ran all of a sudden. Gee.”

“Water?” A blond guy offered her a bottle of water.

“Oh, thank you, Mr. Vanderthan.” she unconsciously said as she reached for it. Her eyes almost popped out when she realized who that man was. She stood up straight as her head snapped to his direction. “Mr. Vanderthan! What are you doing here? Don’t you have a photo shoot today?”

“Good morning! I have a lot of free time today so I decided to walk around.” he said as he look at her straight into her eyes.

She sighed. Seriously, there’s something behind that set of hazel eyes, she thought. “Have we met before? Because you seemed so familiar to me. Something inside me is telling me that I know you. I just can’t remember when, where and how.” she uttered helplessly.

He placed his hands inside his jeans’ pockets. “Years had passed when you’re mom got caught in an accident. You seemed absent-minded while crossing the street  upon knowing that. Because of that my car almost hit you. Good thing, I was able to stop it at the right time or else, you’ll be at the emergeny room like yout mother.”

She blinked as  her eyebrows almost met. She’s trying to remember what he’s saying and her memory came in a flash. Her face lighten up. “The man who helped me then? You’ve him? Yes, you’re him!” She beamed and hugged him tight. Oh my. He smelled so good, she thought. She felt a pair of strong arms wrapped around her. That’s the time she got back to reality.

She immediately loosen her grip and stepped back. “Sorry.” she said as she bowed down.

“No, it’s okay. I understood what you’re feeling  right now.”

“You paid the hospital bills and left. I haven’t seen you again after that. Don’t worry, I’ll pay you back.”

“No need. You don’t have to do that. I’m happy that I was able to help and I’m not expecting anything in return. Besides, that’s the essence of helping right?” He didn’t averted her gaze, which made her feel uneasy.

“Right.” She just nodded. “Is there anything I could do? I mean, do you need some help? You can call me so that we’re quits.” She hesitantly smiled.
