“OKAY. Let’s get to business. Why did you bring me here?”

“I just wanna clear things out.”

She averted and blinked. Haruki remembered that dawn she ended her connection with him.

“You left without a word.”

She took in a deep breath.

“Haruki?” he mumbled.

“Yes?”

“Your soul’s back, am I right? It’s already there in your body. You despise me that’s why you left, right?”

Her head snapped to his direction. She was suddenly outraged. “Yes, I’m back to my body. It’s good to know that you are aware of how much I hated you.

You’re asking me why I left? Listen carefully. I don’t want to be with someone who almost ruined my life! It’s not easy to search for my body and what do you think of me, a blood bank? You’re nothing but a blood sucker—a beast!”

All of a sudden, he roughly pinned her down. The ocean blue jewels were slowly turning into glowing balls of fire. He held her tight that it brought shivers down her spine.

‘Come on, Haruki. Think!’ She struggled and tried to escape but failed.

He held her wrists and held it above her head. Another arm was wrapped around her waist.

‘Now it’s impossible to escape. Great!’ Suddenly, she felt his cold breathe on her neck which made her quiver.

His nose ran through her skin as if he’s smelling her. Then, he gently kissed a certain spot and licked it. It earned a gasp from her. ‘This feels like the night he bit me.’ She struggled once more but he tightened his grip. Haruki just shut her eyes. ‘Please don’t… Please… don’t do it!’

-

Few moments passed but she didn’t even feel a single pain. ‘Is he done? Am I still inside my body? Am I still a human?’ She felt that he finally let go of her hands but his arms around her remain.

He stare at her straight into her eyes. His eyes were back in its peaceful blue color. She felt uneasy that she looked away.

“Haruki… I know you’re mad at me. I did harsh things to you without your consent. I’m sorry… I really am… I didn’t mean to… I didn’t want to hurt you…

I want to get mad at you in the first place. I want to erase this feeling. But I just… I can’t.”

She felt some droplets of water falling onto her face. She glanced back at him. His eyes were teary. It was reddish as well as his nose. She bit her lower lip. All of a sudden, she felt sorry for him.

“People say that a vampire like me doesn’t know how to love or know what it feels like. But why is it that whenever you’re around, I feel so glad? Then suddenly gets lonely when you’re not there? Tell me, is that what humans called love?”

RING!!!

Both of them blinked. “It’s your phone.”

“Uhm. Yeah.” she uttered, still looking at him.

“Answer it. It might be an important call.” He blandly said.

“Huh? Ah, okay.” She did answer the call. “Yes, hello?... Uhm. Hey!... Well, I was just strolling down the street. Let’s just call it an early morning walk… Uhm. Yeah. I’ll be heading back now. Bye.” She placed her phone back into her pocket and glanced at him. He let go of her and stood up. “Holton…” she called.

He faked out a smile. “It’s okay, Haruki, I understand. Come on, I’ll drive you back home.” he said as he held out a hand.

She accepted it and they walked back to his car. He opened the car door for her and both of them get in. Once he closed the car door beside him, he turned on the engine.  He cleared his throat. “Before anything else, can I ask a favor from you?”

“What is it?”

“May I hold your hand?”

She gulped. “Uhm. Yeah, sure.”

He did reach out for her left hand.

All the while, they didn’t utter a single word. Their eyes were on the road. What they could only hear was each other’s breathing.

-

He parked the vehicle meters away from her house. He lifted her hand and kissed it as he closed his eyes. Then, he placed her palm on his face, feeling her warmth. He didn’t utter a word and lovingly stare at her straight into her eyes.

She felt uneasy. “Please don’t look at me like that. I will only have a dilemma upon leaving or staying,” she thought to herself. “Holton… Uhm. I… I think I got to go.”

He just nodded and loosened his grip. She stared at him some more. “If you’re going to leave, do it now.” he said, pretending to be pissed.

She took in a deep breath for courage. One… Two… Three… Four… At five, she embraced him. Surely, he was surprised and confused at the same time because of that. “It’s okay now. I already forgave you, my body and soul. I also thank you for everything and I’m sorry for what I said.” she croaked.

He hugged her back and shut his eyes tight. When they finally let go of each other, he kissed her on her forehead.

She faked out a smile and unloaded from his car. She walked towards her home. Even if she didn’t look back, she knows someone was watching her.

She immediately ran upstairs. Then she quickly closed the door once she got inside her room. She leaned against the wall. Haruki covered her mouth and the tears she’s trying to hold back started to roll down her face. She fell to the floor. Her legs were trembling. She was staring straight into nothing. She held her chest. She’s breathing heavily. It feels like there’s a dagger struck on it, shattering her into pieces. It’s a never-ending torture. “Why do I always end up like this?”
