HOLTON heard a bark behind. When he turn his gaze from the direction where the noise came from, he saw Light. “Light!” he called.

The dog jumped to his lap and stare at him with sadness in his eyes. It even licked his tears.

“Oh! This was nothing. I just…remembered something. That’s all.” he said as he wipe off his tears.

Light rub its head to his chest as if giving compassion. “You heard our conversion, right?” The dog barked in agreement.

He smiled but didn’t reach his eyes. “What am I going to do? I think I love her. No, I loved her since the first day we met.”

Light suddenly jumped off his lap and seemed to be sulky.

“Oh, come on. I love you, too—as a dog. My feelings for her is a different kind of love. It’s… It’s… It’s like the love of a man for a woman.” He stood up and looked as if he’s daydreaming. Then suddenly, he looked hopeless.

The dog whined from his quick change of emotion.

“But Lydia said that a body doesn’t keep its feelings for a long time. It’s the soul that is able to love for a lifetime or longer than that. What do you think? Am I really in love with her?” He stared at the dog but it just stare at him, too. It didn’t give any response. It was just watching him. He didn’t even know if it ever understood what he’s saying.

“Forget it.” He sighed then walked inside his room and let himself fall to the king sized bed. He stared at the ceiling until he didn’t notice that he already fell asleep.

HARUKI, the soul, have no idea of what the man named Holton and the maid named Lydia talk about. She didn’t eavesdrop on their conversation. She doesn’t want to especially if it’s a private talk. It’s not her habit.

She waited for a few more minutes after Lydia get out of Holton’s room. Then, she pass through the door. She searched for the black-haired man who was currently taking care of her body. She found no one but noticed a black wig by the veranda.

She flew back inside the room and noticed a sleeping man. She sat down at the end of the bed and stare at him. His hair color was red and his face… Yes! That face! She remembered that man in a flash. He’s the one responsible for separating her soul from her body.

She gritted her teeth. Her eyes were filled with anger and her face was the perfect definition for the word ‘wrath.’ Suddenly, she felt another presence other than the man beside her. She looked sideways until she saw a dog coated with its golden hair. She stared at it and waited for it to bark from anger or fright. But it didn’t react the way she expected to. It just stared at her. “You can see me?” she asked, pointing herself.

The dog suddenly nodded. It means it can see her.

"Then why aren’t you reacting? Animals are outraged whenever they feel a soul’s presence. I already experienced it, you know!” she said then blinked. “Being threatened at by animals, I mean. You’re not afraid of me?”

The dog turned its head sideways which means he’s not afraid of her. It’s amazing. The dog could clearly understand what she’s saying. How clever!

“Do you know this man?” She pointed the sleeping redhead guy.

The dog nodded.

“He’s your master?”

It nodded once again.

“Don’t you even know that this man has no soul?”

It nodded to her question.

“You know?” she confirmed.

It nodded for the fifth time.

Her eyes almost popped out of surprise. “But he’s a blood sucker! He’s a vampire—no, he’s a monster!” she yelled. Her body’s trembling. She wasn’t able to control her emotions.

Because of what she said, the dog barked at her. Its eyes were filled with anger, too. But it didn’t reveal its teeth. It’s like the dog wanted her to stop.

She sighed. “Sorry.” she said as she flew away. She better talk straight to the man and not to its weird pet.
