HOLTON went inside his room and was surprised when he saw Lydia there. “Lydia, aren’t you supposed to be in Haruki’s room?”
“Master.” she greeted as she bowed.
“I want to talk to you about something.” she blandly said.
“What is it? You’re scaring me by that serious look of yours, you know.”
“Let us talk by the veranda.”
“Okay.” He followed her there.
“Before everything else, I have a question.”
“Yes?”
“Why did you color your hair black?”
He held his hair and felt the wig. He forgot to remove it. “No, this is just a wig.” he said as he removed it.
“Oh…”
“Now, what do you want to talk about?”
“About you and Haurki…”
“About us? Why? Are you jealous?” he teased.
“No, a nanny like me can never be jealous of other girls.”
He made face. She’s making it clear that although he’s a grown up man, he still have a nanny. Poor guy!
“What do you think of her?”
“What I think of her? Well…”
“Do you like her?”
He smiled. “Yeah. Who wouldn’t? She’s beautiful inside and out.”
“Do you love her?”
His smile turned into gloom. "I… I don’t know.”
“But you have feelings for her?”
He raised his two hands. “Yeah.”
“Holton… I’m telling you, stop this right now.”
“What?” he suddenly snapped his head to her direction.
“Stop liking her!” she demanded.
“How?”
“Be formal to her just like before.”
“I… I can’t.”
“Holton, please… You know what will happen if this will continue.” She reminded him.
“I know.” he mumbled as he looked down on the floor. A vampire shouldn’t be in love with another vampire or else… they’ll have a soulless child. That child will never have an afterlife. There’s no other life for him but the life here on Earth.
“You don’t want another soulless child to be born, do you? After existing here, there’s no other life waiting.” her voice mellowed.
He stiffened. “I understand that very well.”
“You know what? Before anything else happens, bring her back to where she belong.”
“No.”
“Holton! Her soul is searching for her body!” she exclaimed.
“I’ll think about it.”
“Holton, you have to decide now! Her loved ones might be worried. They might even think that she’s already dead!”
He raised his head up, his eyes watering from the tears that were about to trickle down his face. “But how about me? What will happen to me when she’s gone?”
“You’ll get back to your usual life.”
“Living alone? I can’t! You know that very well.”
She sighed. “If only I know that this would happen, I shouldn’t have let you see her even before she met you.” she mumbled.
He sighed. He remembered the first day he met her. He’s from a photo shoot then. He’s driving home when he almost hit a teenage girl crossing the street.
He got off the car, pissed off. This girl knows that the traffic light is still green yet she already crossed the street. “Are you even aware that there’s a traffic light here?”
She shyly smiled. “I’m very sorry for scaring you, mister. But I didn’t scratch your van, right?”
He glanced at his van then back to her. “No. But you should be careful next time.”
“Yes, sir. I was just in a hurry.”
“Everybody’s in a hurry, especially I a city.”
“My mom was caught in an accident and I was heading to the hospital now.” she said, her hands were trembling.
That’s when it hit him. “Oh! Sorry. What’s the name of the hospital?” he suddenly asked.
“Sir?”
“I’ll give you a ride there. I know how important your mom for you was.”
“How did you know?”
“Everybody loves their mom, right?” He opened the door for her.
She smiled. “Thank you, mister.” she said as she sat on the back seat.
“Holton, wake up! She can’t even remember you!”
“Because we just met once.”
“No! Because she has no pure memory! It only remembers the present action but not the past because she has no soul. It was separated from her body twenty-four hours after you have bitten her, don’t you remember?”
Her words were like knives, stabbing his chest. He sighed.
“Holton, if you really are sorry for what you’ve done, you better bring her back to her family and help her find her soul.” Lydia said then bowed and left the room.
He slump on the chair. His sight became blurred and liquid crystals slowly flowed down his face. But he didn’t bother to wipe it out.
