HE was about to struck the dog with a piece of pointed wood when he saw it’s pleading expression. It’s trembling from fear. It’s eyes we’re looking at him as if it was pleading not to be killed by him. He suddenly remembered Haruki’s scared face that frightful night. It made him hate himself more.
He let go of the poor animal all at once. It seems like he lost all of his energy and even hope. He knelled and bowed as if he lost in a bet. He stared at his hands. It has bruises and dirt.
‘What’s happening to me?’
He suddenly felt something hairy on his arm. He opened his eyes and saw the dog he attacked awhile ago. It was standing in front of him with its head tilted as if seeking his face.
Suddenly, it walked towards him and licked his bruises. It’s as if it was curing him.
“You’re not afraid of me?” was the first thing that came out of his mouth.
The dog suddenly jumped on his chest making the two of them fall on the grass. He thought he was going to be killed. He’s ready for whatever consequence that might happen. Besides, he’s tired of his life. He’s sick of it. He’s not a normal being unlike other people. Call him selfish or dumb. He doesn't care anymore. Because for him, all he did was to harm people. He’s a bad guy.
He was deep in his thoughts when he felt something wet on his face. As he went back to reality, he realized that the dog was waggling its tail and licking his face!
“I guess… you’re not afraid of me anymore…” he smiled. “Does somebody own you?”
The dog just moved around with its head bowed.
“So, will it be okay for you to make you my pet?”
The dog didn’t hesitate to bark so lively.
“Okay then, you’re now my pet!”
If this was a human, it might be jumping for joy!
“I wonder what your name would be.” He stared at the dog. That’s the time he realized that the dog is a golden retriever. It seemed to shine under the moonlight. He could feel a different aura from it. It’s like a loyal and noble being. It’s like the moon shinning in the dark sky. “Hmm… I know. Light, I’ll call you ‘Light!”
The dog barked and wiggled its tail as if it agreed with him. He smiled and stared at the sky once again. “I’m sleepy. Let’s go back.”
The dark forest seemed like a paradise where laughter from a master and sounds of cheer from a pet could be heard. That night, the gloomy forest was filled with happiness.
HARUKI felt the heat striking her face. She wanted to sleep some more. But the heat was too intense that it almost burn her cheeks. She growled and got up.
Its noon time and the Sun’s heat was at it’s peak. The floor to ceiling window made the situation worse. It increased the room’s temperature. It even made her sweat a lot!
She grabbed a bath robe and rushed to the bathroom to give herself a refreshing bath.
She dressed up. As usual, the apparels she used were fancy. She have no choice. Only formal dresses could be found in the huge oak cabinet.
