Filler Chapter

John didn't go to school for three weeks.

Even then he didn't want to. He just didn't get any time off as he couldn't afford to lose credits.

So he had to go.

He had to take all the children to school since they didn't have another ride.

He dropped Martha off at the elementary school, her being in kindergarten, with much fuss and screaming.

She just got so attached to John and it broke his heart seeing her like this.

He knew she was probably going through separation anxiety, though John didn't know what he was going to do when he had to leave to college.

John dropped the two boys off at the middle school. James was in 8th grade and Henry was in 6th. James didn't say anything and Henry just complained about how it was stupid they had to go to school so soon.

John then picked up Alexander. He was looking down in his lap, clearly still in his stages of grief.

Alexander got in and looked at John, putting an arm around him.

"It'll be okay, Jacky." He whispered, rubbing his back.

John nodded and sighed, beginning to drive again.

"How much work am I gonna have to do?" John asked after a few moments of silence.

"Not too much. They aren't allowed to give you too much work after a family death." Alexander said.

John nodded, taking his word for it. He knew Alexander had read the entire school rule book several times.

Alexander looked over at John. "I missed you, ya know?" He whispered.

John nodded and glanced over at him. "You too. I'm sorry for not talking to you much lately..." he replied.

Alexander shook his head in response. "It's okay. You're going through a lot. I just want you to remember I'm here. I'm your best friend for a reason." He said as they pulled up to the school.

John nodded and parked the car. "Best friend... I know." He mumbled with a sigh.

Now, dating Alexander meant more to him than feelings.

He had to do it for his mother. She wanted him to.

And he would be happy to honor her like that.

Alexander and John walked up to the school, sitting next to Lafayette and Hercules.

They both immediately hugged John. "Mon petit, are you alright?" Lafayette asked, squeezing him tightly.

John sighed and shook his head. "No but I will be..."

Hercules held him a bit tighter. "It'll be alright, John. Just keep yourself busy today." He suggested

John nodded.

"Yeah, busy." He mumbled
