The seasons passed and the mothers in building B floor 8 had only gotten closer. Miho was kind enough to help Inko get settled in at the nearby hospital, where she only worked morning shifts. Other mothers came into the apartment complex, excited that there were many other soon to be toddlers. Eventually though, Hisakawa had to take the bottom two apartments and merge them to create a type of daycare for the working mothers. Since her room was across the hall, she ended up designated nanny. Tanaka was overjoyed to be helpful with Yukiko, with plenty of experience that none of the other mothers in the building had.
Before Inko knew it, she was celebrating her twin's first birthday. Then their second and their third... and then she was watching helplessly as Hisakawa took them to their first day at kindergarten. She wanted to take them herself, but she couldn't. No one was willing to switch shifts with her and not showing up was unacceptable. She was not about to lose her job because her boss wouldn't let her be thirty minutes late. The only good news she had was that Hisakawa promised to take pictures for her.
"Bye-bye mommy!" Izuku jumped up and down, tugging at Yukiko's arm as he waved widely with his free hand. Izumi, the strange one of the two, refused to look back at her.
"Izumi?" Inko kneeled on the cool pavement by the entrance to the complex. The little girl tensed up and she couldn't hide her own smile. When Izuku swivels around Yukiko to peer into Izumi's face, she couldn't help but giggle.
"Sweetie, it's not goodbye," Inko said gently, watching Izuku perk up at the information.
"It's not mommy?" He asked, all wide eyed and curious.
"No sweetie," Inko shook her head at her son. "After all, I'll see you both later today. I'll pick you up from daycare. Promise."
"Weally?" Izumi turned slightly, revealing the previously hidden tears spilling down her freckled face.
"Promise honey." Inko smiled, knowing her daughter could see her made it feel more natural. "With times like this, the proper term is 'see you later'."
"Oh-okay." Izumi twisted in Tanaka's hand and smiled back at her mother, still snot nosed and tear-stained but her smile was big and genuine. "See you waiter mommy!"
"Later my babies." Her daughter's mispronouncing was adorable but she did hope the new teachers would help her break the strange habit. Izuku giggled helplessly as he swung back around Hisakawa and pulled her along the sidewalk, excited to be someplace new. Once they turned the corner and were out of sight, Inko grabbed her bag and then ran for her life towards work. She had stayed behind too long, if she didn't make up the time she'll be late.
Of course she may have, maybe, used her quirk a little bit. Propelling herself faster with every step was more difficult than she recalled it being. Perhaps she was just out of practice in using it to increase her speed."You didn't need to run here!" Of course apron arrival at work her legs gave out and now her boss was chewing her out. The man was genuinely worried when she came into the building by sliding on her back and crashing her head into the nearest counter.
"S-sorry," Inko smiled sheepishly at the man as he passed off another ice bag to a coworker.
"Goodness woman, if you want to drop off your kids that much just tell me." Her boss glared at her before moving o make another ice pack from the staffroom's refrigerator.
"Huh? You mean Mikuko-san didn't tell you?" Inko asked. She had learned that nurse she had first met here, the day her twins were born, was named Mikuko Matsushita. No one really knew how Mikuko managed to propel herself into Management after two years but the blonde did. The only thing any nurse in the building agree on was that Mikuko was vicious and apparently held grudges.
"Tell me what?" He turned to look at her, a frown on his face. Inko chuckled nervously, scratching her cheek, hoping he hadn't noticed her distraction.
"Oh, I asked her if I could start my shift a little bit later today for my kids and she said she'd leave a note for you." She smiled at her boss, unphased with her expected 'I never saw any notes' from the man. "I guess she forgot. It's okay! I'm still on time!"
"Your resting for the next thirty minutes missy!" one nurse barked. "What did I tell you about pushing yourself?!"
"To not too," Inko cringed back from the head nurse now towering threatening above her. Another day, another silent war. Inko thought as the head nurse proceeded to scold her for very nearly hurting herself. It doesn't matter. It's not like she can hold out forever. She'll get tired of being mean eventually.
The kindergarten teacher informed her that he couldn't tell the twins apart so he pulled half of Izumi's hair aside and pinned it in place with a bow. Izuku starting crying because he no longer looked like his sister, which only made her start crying too. So the teacher pulled Izuku's hair to the other side and used a plane barrette to keep it in place. The twins were content with that and they made the most adorable little photo. She was printing that one off and hanging it on the wall.
Throughout the entire day Inko's phone buzzed, depicting short photos or videos of the children in the kindergarten class. As she was a part of the group text titled 'mama bear' she ended up getting very amusing photos and pictures of children she didn't know. At least she saw her children interacting with the others on a good basis. One of the kids, a wild haired blond named Katsuki, was caught making fun of Izumi's hair color. And of course neither twin was going to stand for being teased. The video of the fight, breakup and resulting apology between the five kids involved was horrifying, amusing and adorable all in order.
One of the mothers texted back an intense apology and the promise to punish her son for his misbehavior. Inko quickly reassured the woman that it wasn't necessary as it appeared her twins taught the boy a lesson. She had no idea how the other woman took the comment but several other mothers sent emoji implying that they were laughing hysterically at the interaction. Nap time was at 2 o'clock and the picture sent to her privately was the pure essence of innocence. Both Izuku and Izumi were curled together, somehow holding hands and laying their heads on the other's stomach. The Katsuki-boy was curled against Izumi's back, facing one of his other friends and sucking on his thumb.
That was another one she was going to have to hang on her wall.
