Bakugo Katsuki was a loud, energetic, proud three year old who was afraid of basically nothing. However, as he cowered beside his friends, starring up at the woman who protected them, he felt ashamed and afraid for the first time in his short three years. Yukiko Hisakawa, the ancient grandmother of building B of Chiemi apartments, stood alone amongst the dozens of preschoolers entrusted to her. Surrounding them, a thick decagon shape of electricity and energy stood soundly against the building pieces that surly would've killed them all. There wasn't a single injury amongst their number. Yukiko had even managed to expand her shield to encase a few nearby adults and the children with them. By Katsuki's count, there were all fifteen of his classmates, seven middle scholars, ten high scholars, and eight adults. None of them appeared to be harmed.
"Too close," Yukiko sighed, "way too close." She kept her back to the people she saved, turning her head ever so slightly to keep all of her electrical hexagons in sight.
"Grandma Yuki," Izuku sniffed, cowering in Izumi's arms, "what happened?" Katsuki stepped forward and set a comforting hand on Izuku's shoulder, he wasn't sure what would happen if Izumi broke too. He knew the girl normally copied Izuku on anything emotional. If he started crying so would she, if he started throwing a tantrum she'd pout in a corner. He had to get Izuku to stop crying, he wouldn't be able to remain calm if Izumi started crying too.
"A bomber," Katsuki answered, nibbling on his lip as Izumi nodded in silent agreement. "Grandma, what's going to happen now?" Yukiko didn't look at them for a moment, keeping track of her quirk and judging the distance between each of her shields. Ultimately though, she couldn't judge the distance between each of her shields. If she tried to bring the other's she saved towards herself, she could ultimately harm them instead of protecting them.
"We have to wait for the hero's," Yukiko answered at last, her voice a soft sigh.
"What's that supposed to mean?" One of the mothers asked, she was clutching her terrified child close, trying hard not to lose control.
"I mean I have no idea how my other shields are holding up." Yukiko replied briskly, "I won't know whose safe to release or move until a pro-hero arrives to lend me aid."
"Grandma Yuki, how many people did you save?" Izumi asked, rubbing one hand through Izuku's curls and the other across his back. Katsuki stepped closer and wrapped both his arms around the twins, setting his head against Izumi's while he was at it.
"I don't know," Yukiko answered, unsure if she should be answering the question. "I tried to follow the electrical current to provide protection to everyone in the observatory."
"what's your quirk?" Katsuki asked curiously.
"I make hexagonal shields out of the electrical currents around myself," Yukiko answered. "It's electrical-based quirk so I used that as a foundation to locate those around me and provide them with a shield. However without visual confirmation or an outside source giving me direction, I'm not sure if I was able to protect everyone in the observatory."
"Stop asking the woman questions children," one of the teenagers instructed as he walked over, smiling gently at the three of them. "I'm sure she has to concentrate on her quirk." Each of the children fell silent, staring up at the strange boy with uncertainty and distrust. "My name is Akio Saito, I'm second year from U.A. high."
"you go to the same school as All Might!" Izuku gushed, his face flushing as he relaxed. Izumi's arms tightened around him, prompting Katsuki to tug both twins away from the boy and closer to Yukiko.
"There's no need to be afraid," Akio smiled and crouched, keeping his hands high to let the children feel more comfort around his person. "I'm your alley," Izumi glared, moving to push both Izuku and Katsuki behind herself, changing her stance from comforting to defensive. "What's the matter little brother? I just told you—"
"Izumi is a girl," Izuku pipped up, poking his head out from behind his sister. "She's sensitive about it."
"Izuku," Katsuki hissed, tugging the boy further away from Izumi so she could make the final decision.
"Enough children," Yukiko ordered, "stand close." Her eyes hadn't moved from the original blast site, her eyes narrowed into a thoughtful glare. I can sense movement above us but, Yukiko thought as she glanced down at the twins who now clung to her left hand. They have the same devices as the suicide bomber. Yukiko glanced back at the lives she spared. Some of the parents were telling stories of hero's they met. The middle schoolers were huddled together, taking stock of supply and thinking of plans. The high scholars soon joined them, recounting numbers, coming up with contingency plans, going over attack patterns, using their training to the highest format they could mentally adjust too.
We can't stay down here forever, Yukiko thought, closing her eyes and concentrating on her quirk.
"Do not be afraid," the voice was muffled and low, a distinctive soprano of a woman. Somewhere in the back of her mind, Yukiko thought she recognized the voice but she wasn't sure where she heard it.
"Mommy?" the twins whispered, just soft enough for Yukiko to overhear.
"We are here. To those of you lost, we will find you. To those of you injured, we will save you. To those of you suffering, we will protect you. Have no fear for we are here. Hero's, watch for the butterflies, they will lead you well."
"We're gonna be saved!" one of the mother's cheered, laughing hysterically with her now relieved child.
