Ch. 9

Alex

~~~~UNEDITED~~~~
"Am I picking you up from school today?" My dad asked as we were on our way to school. I knew my answer the minute that he said it. "Don’t you have to work dad?"
"Yeah..." I felt terrible when he said it because I knew that he was willing to take off of work to pick me up.
"No dad. I'm gonna walk home with a friend."
 "Alright, but be safe."
"I will, dad. I always am." I said with a semi-convincing smile. My dad bought it, of course, and I was already out of the car, my eyes wandering to find Mason. I had no idea what type of car he had, let alone find him in the swarm of unfamiliar cars.
The first thing on my mind was worry. I knew that I couldn’t just run up to him and advertise that we had a ‘thing’ if you even would call it that. I walked up to him, knowing that I could at least talk to him. I was just about to say something when I was scared from behind.
"Hey," a familiar voice said.
"Hey Lucas! My man, how’s it going?" It was Amanda’s boyfriend, Lucas. Mason had taken eyes from me to shake hands and give Lucas a hug.
I felt awkward standing there. I knew Lucas was popular, but since when was he best buds with Mason?
"Hey Alex! Long time no see huh?" Lucas teased.
"You've met?" Mason asked, confused.
"Yeah, 'course we have. Alex here is friends with Amanda."
"Oh, really?" Mason asked as he turned to look at me.
I nodded my head. I slowly started to walk away, as the conversation grew less interesting. I turned around and tried to look for a familiar face. I saw Natalie sitting by herself so I went up and joined her. I knew full well that she didn’t like me, but I was keeping my friends close, but my enemies closer.
"Hey," I said. She had an awful funny look in her eyes. I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt. I couldn’t help but wonder if she knew.
          “So, becoming ‘best buddies’ with Mason, I see.”
          “Hi, how are you? Oh I’m good thanks for asking.” I said glaring at her.
          “Mason goes through his friends pretty easily. We wouldn’t want little Alex to get hurt,” she said in a bitchy tone.
          “Well we wouldn’t want poor little Natalie to get hurt when I slap her.” I said, talking to her in a baby voice. So much for being nice to her.
          “Is that a threat?” Natalie asked with bitterness to her tone.
          “No, it’s a promise.” I said, and spun on my heel and walked away. There was no chance that I was befriending her.
So I really could use some feedback here! This story really isn't cliche if that's what you think and the chapters are supposed to be short. I don't like to write all long chapters but some short ones. If I get more dedicated readers then I could possibly update 2-3 chapters at once if you would like. Let me know, I love to hear from you guys!
