Ch. 22

Alex

~~~~UNEDITED~~~~
          I heard the door open, and I pulled away from Mason to see who it was. It was my dad, and he was staring at me.
          “Alexandra, get upstairs now.” My dad demanded seeing Mason and me. There was no way that I was going to let him be alone with Mason.
          I looked at him dead in the eyes. “No.”
          “Alexandra.” He said, looking at me sternly. I looked back at Mason, and he nodded ever so slightly. He wanted me to go upstairs. He thought he could handle my dad, but god was he wrong. I walked upstairs, glaring at my father.
          “Mason, why don’t you join me in the kitchen?” I heard two sets of footsteps, and I got worried. I had to hear everything that was happening. I took off up the stairs and ran into the laundry room, on the second floor. Since the house was rather old, there were maid stairs in the back that led down into the dining room, which was right by the kitchen.
          I quietly sneaked down the stairs, leaning my head against the door.
          “Mason, you lied to me yesterday.” My father said, anger and disappointment filled his voice.
          “No sir, I did not lie to you. I started dating your daughter today, and came to ask your approval.” Mason said, and I smiled to myself, thinking what a sweet boyfriend he was. Wait what? I was dating him? It was official? I mean I know making out on the couch might mean something, but I still wasn’t sure. There was still the whole friends with benefits option.
          “So while you were waiting, you decided to make out with my daughter on the couch, thinking that I would be ok with all of this when I got home?” Mason didn’t say anything, and I knew it was coming soon. My dad was going to ruin everything for me.
          “I don’t want you seeing my daughter.”
          “Sir, I promise that I will take care of her. I won’t let her get hurt.”
          “If you really like her, you will leave her alone.” I was now crying. Tears full on streaming down my face. I know it seemed ridiculous, but I had developed feelings for Mason about a month ago, when he first walked me home. I was so heart broken when I found out that he had a girlfriend, not that I would have ever let anyone know that.
          I heard Mason’s footsteps walking out and the door closing. I opened the door from the stairs and walked into the kitchen. I didn’t even give my dad a chance to say anything. “I honestly can’t believe you! I’m sixteen, dad and it’s time that you start to realize that! I can make my own choices! I like Mason, and I really don’t care if you do or not! You have hardly been here for me since mom died, so I have had to grow up on my own! And then you go and take away the only really good thing I have? I have had to move all around the freaking world for you, and it still isn’t enough! When are you going to let me be happy dad?” I couldn’t speak anymore. I ran out of the house, after Mason.
          I saw him on the sidewalk, walking with is hands in his pockets. “Mason!” I called out to him, and he turned around, not believing that it was really me calling out to him.
          “Alex!” He said happily, and held open his arms as I ran into them.
          “I’m really sorry,”
          “It’s ok,” He said, rubbing my back. “How did you get out of the house?”
          “I ran,” He chuckled quietly.
          “Let’s go to my house. My parents should be out tonight.”
          “Ok,” I said, smiling. I started to think that this was all happening so fast, but really, it wasn’t. We have had feelings for each other ever since we kissed a month or so ago. It’s just now we can actually be together.
          When we got to his house, he sneaked me up to his room. “Let me get you a change of clothes.” He said, picking out a shirt and a pair of his sweatpants for me. He led me to the bathroom, and I changed. His clothes smelled so good; sweet, just like him.
I walked back into his room, to find that he wasn’t there. I sat on his bed, and looked at his room. The walls were painted a navy blue and he had some posters. He had a mini fridge right next to his bed, which was definitely cool.
          “Do you like it?” Mason asked.        I nodded my head, not able to find the right words. He took a seat next to me, and looked into my eyes. “Do you want to talk about it?”
          “Trust me you don’t want to hear it.”
          “I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t want to.”
          “Fine,” I said, giving into his pleading eyes. “My dad has changed since my mom died which yes, I know it seems reasonable, but it really isn’t. I have had to move all over the United States for him, and he still thinks that he can just parade around and control my life as if he has been there for me for the whole time. He is always away on trips, which isn’t that bad, but it io\u'I just renting wise."n parade around and control my life as if he has been there for me for the whole time. He is always away os parenting wise. I just don’t know why he thinks that he can just come right into my life and make my decisions for me when he hasn’t been there when I have needed him the most.”
          “You shouldn’t have left.” Mason said, looking at me intently.
          “Well I was not staying there.”
          “Alex, I’m not important enough for you to fight with your dad. You will have plenty of boyfriends, but only one dad.” Mason’s words stung me hard. I knew that he was right, but I didn’t want to hear it.
          “Are you…?”
          “No, I’m not. I wouldn’t. I just want you to be aware, that’s all.” He looked at me, and I leaned into his chest. He was rock hard, but extremely comforting.
