"Where did you go last night? I was worried!"
Megan didn't even leave Alice the time to remove her shoes, at the second she walked through the door, the girl was already assaulting her with questions.
"I'm fine. I was with Jungkook."
"All night!"
"You and Taehyung are friends now?" Alice replied, a little annoyed.
Megan sighed as an answer and Alice felt bad for snapping at her.
The blonde was standing in the middle of the kitchen, a cup of coffee in hand, and Alice noticed the dark circles and the worry in her eyes, so deep-set that it was covering the spark that was usually there.
The girl's stomach knotted. The two of them were close. Really close. Megan just got her in a way nobody could. However, lately she had been keeping secrets from her and the thought was gnawing at her chest. This coldness, these suspicious glares and snappy remarks; that wasn't them.
Alice sat down at the dinner table, running a hand through her hair. The sudden need to tell Megan everything was stronger than her fear of being judged.
"Sit down, I need to tell you some stuff."
Megan's eyes narrowed and she sat down in front of her friend, crossing her legs. Alice stared at her hands for a second before she started to speak.
"I'm sorry I was so distant lately," she began with a small voice, " After that night, when the coven chased me in the streets, I feel like I have been constantly messing up, and I didn't want to tell you about it, because I didn't want to disappoint you."
The girl slowly lifted her gaze to meet Megan's eyes. Her friend wasn't mad, she was just biting her lower lip, thoughtful.
"I'm sorry too," she conveyed, "I get that I'm a bit hard on you sometimes..."
Alice smiled a bit and took her friend's hand, suddenly feeling like the same kid who had ran away from her home with her blonde friend as only source of comfort and security. Megan sent her a side grin.
"I won't bother you and Jungkook anymore. If you think he's a good guy, then I have nothing to worry about."
It was like her words broke something in Alice. She felt like the dam keeping her emotions in check ruptured, and suddenly, everything was out; the helplessness, the frustration, the fear. Her eyes filled up with tears, a burst of sadness emerging on her face.
"What is it? What happened?" Megan exclaimed, tightly holding her friend's hand, worried.
Alice told her everything. She told her about the spirit that had almost strangled her in the Namsan botanical garden, the assault at the bar, how Jungkook had saved her, and how, against all odds, they had become friends. She also told Megan about the kiss in the staircase and the night they had spent together. Megan wasn't surprised about that part.
So... you and Jungkook?"
Alice shook her head, biting her lower lip.
"We're friends. I don't think it meant anything."
Megan wasn't pleased at all about the fact that Alice got assaulted and drugged, however. To say she was mad would be an understatement.
"I really hope Jungkook broke all their bones," she fulminated.
Alice was feeling a lot better now that everything was off her chest, but then Megan looked at her almost guiltily and she tilted her head to the side.
"You're hiding stuff too, right?"
The blonde nodded.
And then Megan told her friend about that night, at the house party, when she met Kim Taehyung.
