Alice was pacing in Jungkook's kitchen, walking around the big marble island while she was waiting for the others to arrive.
Her blood felt like ice in her veins.
She knew that breaking things off with Jungkook was the right thing to do.
At least, that's what she was telling herself as she walked around the kitchen, hands buried in her pockets and gaze directed to her feet.
She thought that she would at least feel a little bit of relief now that nothing was holding her back from leaving, but on the contrary, her heart felt shrunken and cold in her chest and her thoughts were bitter. She was all alone, again, and needed to leave a city she loved, again, and truly at this moment in time, everything sucked as bad as it could.
Finally, the front door opened, and she jerked her head up, an anxious Jimin walking in.
"Hi," he told her, staring down at the ground and seemingly disturbed.
His face was covered with what looked like soot, grey hair full of ashes and his clothes smeared with traces of dirt.
"Jimin," exclaimed the girl, rushing to him, "What happened?"
He pointed down at his clothes.
"That?" he asked, "You should see Megan!"
"Megan is here?"
Alice was already at the door, glancing outside to see her friend in the distance, taking luggage out of Jimin's car and dragging it to the front door.
"Are you alright?" asked Alice, looking at her friend's face, also covered in soot.
Her blonde hair looked grey from the ashes and she was still coughing from inhaling smoke.
"Ask that to the dumbass!" hissed Megan, entering Jungkook's house with an angry expression towards Jimin.
"Hey! The fire was your idea," he replied, sitting on one of the stools at the kitchen island, leaving black smudges everywhere.
"I never asked you to light my curtains on fire!" argued an exasperated Megan.
She brutally dropped the two suitcases she was carrying and looked on the verge of punching Jimin. The tension in the room was palpable, worry fogging the air to form a thick haze around them.
"And you, are you alright?" inquired Megan, gazing at Alice with soft concern in her blue orbs.
Unlike Jimin, she had immediately noticed that Alice's eyes were red and swollen and that she had been crying.
The girl simply nodded as an answer, arms crossed on her chest like she was trying to hold all the pieces of her heart together. The blonde approached her roommate and put a comforting hand on her shoulder, looking up at her with a melancholic expression that made Alice shiver.
"I'm really sorry. The bath full of organs meant that your old coven knew where we lived and that we couldn't stay there anymore. I took most of our clothes and some other stuff and packed Jimin's car with it and we burned the place down. We just couldn't stay there, and I didn't want to leave anything behind that they could use against us..."
Cleansing by fire, another tradition that the two girls had adopted a long time ago when leaving a place behind. It was the only way to eliminate all traces of their presence and to guarantee Alice's family wouldn't use the spot they inhabited to establish a location spell.
The girl nodded again, putting her hands over her face. Leaving was always the hardest part. This time around, things seem to be happening so quickly, she hadn't had the chance to process that she really was leaving town again, yet her apartment was already burnt down to a crisp.
