Alice and Megan both slept the entire day.
The events of the Sabbath night had drained the two girls completely and they both fell asleep, still covered in their bloody clothes, on Megan's bed.
Alice woke up first, at around 5pm in the afternoon. Already, the shadows were stretching on the wooden floor of her apartment and the sound of the traffic outside announced that rush hour was peaking.
Without waking up Megan, she found her way to the bathroom and took a long shower, scrubbing her entire body to get rid of the smell of burnt flesh and blood. Under the hot water, she grinned, thinking about the two classes she had missed that day. After what had happened, ruminating about school felt almost unreal, like University was part of another world.
She finally came out of the bathroom, smelling of lavender and feeling like a shiny new version of herself.
Megan was waiting for her turn, a cup of hot tea in her pale hands and sitting at the dining table.
"Did you sleep well?" Alice asked, peering at the blonde who was blinking lazily, not fully awake yet.
"Like a baby."
Megan met Alice's eyes and she suddenly lost her smile, frowning and looking down at her mug.
"I'm really sorry," she said, almost embarrassed, "It was my idea to celebrate the Sabbath with Namjoon and the others. I dragged you into all that trouble. I should have known better."
"If we hadn't been there, those bitches would have killed an innocent coven and get away with it," Alice replied coldly, "I'm glad we got to kick ass."
Megan hid her face in her hands and sighed.
"When the queen screamed... It was the first time in my entire life I really thought I was going to die... I felt so powerless. It was horrible."
Megan was rarely in such a gloomy mood, and Alice's heart tightened in her chest. She sat at the table in front of her, pressing her lips in a thin line.
"Hey! We are fine! That's what's important! It's all over anyway, thinking about the past won't change anything... just go take a shower and try to relax and forget about all of it."
Megan looked up at her friend, thoughtful.
"You're right, moping about the past won't change anything, but I'm still sorry I got you in that mess."
Following her friend's advice, Megan then stood up, walking straight to the bathroom. Alice, now alone in the kitchen, took out her phone and scrolled through her notifications. She was looking for Jungkook's name... but of course he wasn't there.
She sighed, shoulders slumping.
The fact that all of them almost died the night before had put things in perspective. Alice knew it was time for her to put her ego aside and resolve her conflict with the boy. If she had died during the combat, her only true regret would have been that she let Jungkook think he didn't mean anything to her.
He was her friend. Potentially one of her only two friends at the moment. And yes, maybe it wasn't the best idea to mix friendship and sex, and she had made things messy and complicated uselessly, but she wasn't ready to lose him yet just because of one stupid fight.
She took back her phone, swallowing her pride as she opened her texts and scrolled to Jungkook's name.
Alice: Can we talk?
To her surprise Jungkook replied almost immediately.
Jungkook: Yes
Jungkook: Let's meet at the park in 10?
