Alice and Jungkook were standing in the middle of the kitchen at an arm's distance. Alice's eyes were still red and swollen from her previous breakdown, but her breathing was back to normal now that she knew Megan was safe.

"Sorry for the commotion," she whispered, a gloomy expression on her face, "and sorry for crying on your sweatshirt."

"Are you alright?" Jungkook asked, ignoring her apologies and frowning as he gazed at her defeated demeanor.

He wasn't sure to understand exactly what was going on, but he knew it must be pretty bad to have Alice cry her eyes out like that.

"Yes, yes... I'm perfectly fine," she mumbled, biting her lower lip and looking down at her feet.

Of course she wasn't fine. She had just found corpses in her bathtub. However, this had to do with her old coven, her family, and she didn't want to drag more Jungkook into the story than she already did. This wasn't his burden, and she already regretted running to him like a scarred little girl when really, she was the only one that could protect herself at the moment.

Jungkook took a tentative step towards her, suddenly finding himself close enough to smell her rosemary shampoo and Alice crossed her arms on her chest, still looking down at her feet. She didn't move however, when Jungkook cupped her jaw with his fingers, raising her chin so that her eyes could meet his.

To her surprise, he looked almost angry, confusion and annoyance battling in his dark eyes. The corner of his mouth twitched, and he clenched his jaw.

"You can't keep doing this to me," he said in a low voice.

Alice's heart started to thump faster in her chest as she looked at him, flustered by the sudden change of mood.

"I can protect you. You just have to stay close," he whispered, his hot breath tickling her forehead, "You just – you need to let me defend you. You shouldn't have been alone. Why won't you let me be there?"

He was talking to her like she was a fragile little girl he needed to take care of, and his menacing tone didn't help. Alice didn't like it and she took a step back, snapping her head away from his grip.

"You don't understand... my old coven won't hurt me, they need me for my powers, but they might hurt you! That's why I need to leave," Alice simply replied in a sheepish tone.

She felt Jungkook tense, a dark gleam appearing in his eyes as his powers heightened, thick pulses of energy overwhelming him. Alice could feel it inside of his body, twirling and coiling like a snake ready to bite.

"You want to leave? When? For how much time?" he hissed.

Alice took another step back, feeling the hair rise at the back of her neck.

"This – This is what I do! This is what Megan and I have always done! When my crazy family finds me, my cousin alerts me that it's time, and I need to leave as fast as I can before they try to kidnap me or worse..."

"And they found you? Are you sure it's them?" Jungkook yelled.

The girl simply nodded. Blood had left her face completely and she was as white as chalk, wide eyes red and inflamed, chapped lips parted.

"You can't be serious! You can't leave like that! Not right now!" Jungkook screamed and his tone was harsh enough for Alice to recoil in front of him.

She took a deep breath, rolling back her shoulders and finally looked at him right in the eyes, the determined gleam in her azure stare calming down the boy.

"Jungkook," she started, feeling that it was getting harder and harder to maintain his gaze, "I don't want you to decide things for me. It's my coven and my problems and you just have to let me do what I know is best for everyone."

"No, no, I know that, but I – I need to help! This is dangerous, your family is crazy! You need my help and I don't want you to leave," he declared, a little softer this time, but his cheeks were flushing with irritation, "Don't I have a say in your decisions?"

The girl pursed her lips together and felt like crying once again. She knew that he had good intentions, but this wasn't what she needed at all. He had to understand that she was alone in this.

"No," she firmly declared, "You don't have a say in this decision."

It's for your own good.

Rage flashed in the boy's eyes and he balled his fists, taking a deep breath to try to calm down.

"This isn't fair," he snarled, sending her a lethal glare.

She grabbed him by the shoulders, looking at him straight in the eyes.

"Jungkook!" she exclaimed, and it came out a lot louder than she expected, "You're not my boyfriend! You need to let me go now!"

His expression fell and a burst of pain appeared in his eyes, however in a split second it was gone, and a blank mask appeared, his eyes hardening as he looked at her with a clenched jaw.

"Don't worry. I know that I'm not your boyfriend. You keep reminding me of that."

He spat the last words and Alice froze under his heated gaze. Jungkook was now enraged, his cheeks getting flushed as his height dominated the girl and she backed off in a futile attempt to avoid his fury.

"I really meant nothing to you from the start, right? I bet you slept with other people the whole time! Did you have sex with Yoongi too?"

Alice blinked, also getting quite angry herself.

"What are you even talking about!?"

"I'm talking about us alright! I'm talking about you and me having sex for fuck's sake, do you even remember that part?"

The girl blinked, outraged that he was choosing this moment to talk about their nights together. The truth is that for her, it really was just sex, and the fact that he was holding it against her, like he didn't know it meant just that, was somewhat childish in her point of view. She had made it very clear from the start that she didn't want a relationship, and as selfish as it sounded, the fact that Jungkook was still hung up about it was his problem, not hers. He didn't have the right to hold her responsible for something she never committed to.

"Jungkook! Listen to me!" she yelled, "We wouldn't work you and me! We can't even talk these days without you running away before the end of the conversation! Now my old coven is coming after me and I just found dead bodies in my bath and I can't deal with all of this!"

Her tone was getting louder towards the end and Jungkook's face was getting paler.

He approached her again, very close, so close that she could see the vein in his neck beat at the same rhythm as his heart. His jaw was still clenched, and his eyes were as dark as two abysses. She couldn't tell at all what he was thinking.

"So that's it then?" he asked in a cold tone, his dark eyes assessing her.

This is not a break-up, we were never together, wanted to say Alice, but the words stayed stuck somewhere in her throat. Jungkook was still her best friend and this was harder than she even let herself admit.

"I guess that's it," she finally spoke, trying to control the emotions showing on her face.

She didn't succeed and a silent tear rolled down her cheek. Alice didn't think that saying it out loud would hurt so much, but here it was, a blazing white pain ripping her heart apart.

"Fine," Jungkook said.

He didn't even look at her as he turned around and opened the door to leave.
