64| Battle

Alice looked like she belonged as she stood in the middle of her family. With her black coat and dark baggy jeans, even her style was coordinated with the coven's dark theme.

"It's been a while," said one of her deranged cousins, Felix, his muscular arms crossed on his chest, his dark brown hair falling in his eyes.

"Did you miss me?" asked Alice, the sarcasm transpiring in her tone.

"I did!" said a girl that Alice assumed was Juliet because she couldn't recognize at all her platinum blonde hair and dark green eyes.

Without her powers bubbling in her veins, Alice felt weirdly empty. She had never thought about what her powers meant to her before, because she never had a choice about it. Now that they were gone and that the familiar tingle in her veins wasn't there anymore, it felt like she had lost one of her senses. She felt blind, incapable of scanning the building to sense if Yoongi's or anybody's powers were around, useless and defenseless.

However, her family didn't know that her powers were gone. That's why they were keeping a respectable distance with her, thinking that she could hit them at any moment with any kind of spell.

"The happy family reunion can wait!" Alice's grandmother snapped, silencing everyone in the room, "Alice! We are here to take you home!" Evanora continued, a fake expression of endearment plastered on her face as she crossed her arms on her chest.

Her features seemed so young and innocent in the gleam of the candlelight.

"Fine," said Alice, "but you let Megan and Taehyung go!"

The girl knew that if Yoongi was to use her body as a kind of antenna to redirect the curse, she wouldn't be able to choose who would be hit by the hex. Taehyung and Megan needed to leave the room. If not, they were going to be cursed just like the rest of her family and be banished outside of the country with them.

Alice just really hoped that Yoongi knew about this and that he wouldn't try anything before they were outside the room. She also really wanted to believe that he wasn't too far in case she was actually able to make Megan and Taehyung leave the perimeter unharmed.

"No!" categorically answered Evanora, "I'm not releasing Megan and Taehyung no matter what you say."

"Fine!" said Alice with a tone that she wanted confident, but that came out plain aggressive, "Then I'm just going to leave. You perfectly know that no one here could stop me."

Alice kept all her movements under control, knowing that the tiniest mistake in her body language could make her family aware that she was lying.

Keep your voice to a normal level, keep your body relaxed, don't blink too much, look at them in the eyes, but not for too long...

Evanora's jaw clenched and her eyes turned darker. Finally, she was leaving the lovey-dovey act behind and showing her true self.

"If you leave, we will kill them!" she threatened.

Alice smiled, satisfied that her grandmother was taking the bait and swallowing her lies. At this point, she knew exactly how to play it next. Many times she had imagined this conversation in her head, and she was ready to trump any argument her grandmother could come up with. The fear suddenly left Alice's body as she turned around to face her family.

"I don't care," she suddenly said, a wide smile adorning her rosy lips, "you can kill them, torture them all you want, I am not letting you have both them and me. You need to choose."

Evanora was certainly not used to have people saying her no. At this point, smoke was almost coming out of her ears. Her pretty, fine traits were deformed by anger and she pointed an accusing finger towards Alice.
