Megan was sitting at her desk in her bedroom, biting her nails and staring blankly at her textbook.
Doing homework had never been her forte. She was a good student, always above average in all her classes, but it certainly wasn't because she was studying properly. She was smart, annoyingly good at retaining information after hearing it only once, at seeing the patterns and making links in her head when the other students only saw a mess of information.
She threw her notes aside, deciding it was enough studying for the day, then went into the kitchen to get a glass of water, peeking into Alice's bedroom on her way. Her roommate was fast asleep on top of her quilt with her clothes still on and Megan cracked a smile at how peaceful she looked.
It had been four days since the cross-country competition and Alice was still clearly affected by the events of that day even though she didn't want to show it.
Her friend hadn't seen or talked to Jungkook since, but Megan knew she missed him just by the way she had caught her staring at her phone a few times. Alice had already lost Ann and Jisoo at the beginning of the semester and now, she had lost Jungkook too, who was her only friend except for her roomate. All of it sucked, but it wasn't like she was going to forgive him after pulling a stunt like that.
Megan walked in Alice's bedroom and slid a blanket on her friend's body, tucking her in before closing the door behind her.
In those four days where she was cut from Jungkook, Alice hadn't slept much. Now that Megan was thinking about it, she hadn't eaten much either.
Again, Megan wasn't surprised because her friend had always been like that. When a stressful event was happening or when she was anxious about something, all her healthy habits were out the window. She couldn't sleep or eat well until her emotions were back on track.
This weird habit was just part of who she was.
The only thing Megan could do was to hope it wouldn't last for too long.
Her phone suddenly chimed, announcing a notification and she took it out of her pocket, eyeing the unknown number that had just texted her.
Unknown: Hi, we need to talk
Megan: Who is this?
Unknown: It's Kim Namjoon
Kim Namjoon. The name sounded familiar. Megan was sure she had heard it before. She suddenly remembered that Alice had talked about him some time ago. He was the leader of Jungkook's coven, but what did he want with her? She felt her heartbeat pick up and she bit her lower lip, feeling the anxiousness rise in her chest.
Megan: What do you want to talk about?
Namjoon: Can we meet right now? I don't want to do this over the phone
Megan took a deep breath.
It could be a trap.
Yeah, but it isn't. He just wants to talk.
She was so used to being protective of Alice and herself that she knew she could be a little paranoid sometimes. Namjoon just wanted to talk, it wasn't such a big deal. Moreover, his coven had never done anything remotely hostile towards them. They did hurt Alice when they had met her, but according to Taehyung, they were just protecting themselves.
She decided to give Namjoon a chance, curiosity getting the best of her.
Megan: Sure, I can meet you right now. Where?
Namjoon: Do you know where Sangsu-ri is?
Megan knew where the pub was. She had never been inside but knew that it was a small bar at a walking distance from her apartment. The fact that Namjoon had chosen a public place to meet and not his own house or a back-alley confirmed that he just wanted to talk in a safe environment and Megan felt her anxiety melt. She took another deep breath and started looking for her keys.
