No New York State of Mind

*Sawyer's POV*

It had been almost a month and a half since our trip to Georgia. Kane had left on tour once we got back. I had just gotten off my crutches, and my manager was waiting for me at the apartment. She had handed me a whole list of commitments I had to fulfill, and she had no trouble piling on more work when I checked something off the list.

"Time is money afterall. And yours is gold!" She always stressed and always played with my blonde locks while doing so. My stylist had set up an appointment to get it dyed brighter blonde, almost white.

Between all the interviews and shoots, I barely had time to talk to Kane unless it was extremely late at night after his shows. He had been struggling with sleeping, and I found the irony in the situation of me calming him down while I was struggling with the same issue back here in New York. But I'd never tell him that. I used the pamphlets given to me months ago at the hospital, and shoved they back under the mattress whenever I had calmed down.

The panic attacks had become reoccurring and kept me up until early-on into the next morning. I would often doze off on the couch only to be woken by Emmeryse or her family entering the living space and kitchen just a few hours later. With less sleep came the bags under my eyes. And with the bags came more makeup caked onto my face at every shoot.

I was working on wrapping up a shoot when Emmeryse held up my phone, pointing at it. Kane's picture and name were flashing across it as his phone call came through. I called for a pause and went over to her, grabbing it and answering. My photographer wasn't happy, but I covered my other ear to block out whatever he was yelling at me.

"Hey!" I answered.

"Hey! We just touched down. I'll be at the apartment shortly to unpack, but what do you say to a date tonight?" Kane said over the phone. He had wrapped up his tour yesterday.

"And where would we be going?" I smiled and bit my lip as Emmeryse tried listening in.

"I was thinkin' that rooftop restaurant we went to for my last album release party." Kane suggested

My eyes widened, "I dunno. That place is expensive, you know." I said, "What's the occasion?"

"Well I haven't seen you in over a month and you weren't here to celebrate wrappin' up the tour so..." Kane explained

"I'd love to go!" I smiled

"Alright. I have to drop by the studio so I'll meet you there." Kane said

"I could go with you if that's easier." I suggested

"No. You've been workin' a lot lately and I wanna give you time to relax before dinner." Kane said

"Ok?" I questioned

"Gotta get goin'. I love you!" Kane hung up

"If you're finished, we have work to do." The photographer yelled.

I rolled my eyes and his attitude. Why did photographers have to have such bad attitudes? I never had one, but the photographers in New York that I had worked with had called my work amateur when I thought it was beautiful.

Once we got back to the apartment, Emmeryse helped me pick out a dress. The rooftop restaurant was very formal. Kane's suitcases and bags were piled up on the bed, all unopened. He must've left already. I slipped into the black dress that we had picked out. It had a v-neckline that plunged to mid-chest on me. Emmeryse insisted on pairing it with her rhinestone belt to cinch the waist. We curled my hair so fall in twisting and bouncing platinum waves around my shoulders. With my makeup done and strapping on some silver heels, borrowed from Emmeryse, I was all ready for my date with Kane.
