*Sawyer's POV*

Pulling back from Kane, I took a look at the beautiful ring that now sat on my left ring finger, marking me as taken for the rest of my life. I smiled as I admired the way the sun sparked off of the diamonds. The cut refracted the light, reflecting different colors as the I turned it in the light.

"Do you like it? I had it made just for you. Didn't think you wanted a giant rock on your hand, but I wanted somethin' noticeable." Kane wrapped his arm around me

"It's perfect." I breathed.

Kane's band members and those surrounding us voiced their congratulations. Mrs. Alter's had come to see what all the commotion was about and gasped when she saw the ring on my finger. Her smile grew wide as let out a scream, pulling me into a bone crushing hug. She was just a tiny bit excited. She pulled my hand towards her as she admired my engagement ring.

"Oh! It's gorgeous!" She said

"I know!" I smiled and bit my lip, admiring the ring again

She smiled softly, "If he drove all the way down here and made sure not to be followed, I'd say he'd love you enough that if you told him about your situation that he'd be there to support you." She squeezed my hand.

All I could do was nod. She was right. Kane's band had loaded everything up in the trucks flanking his. Dad's truck rolled up as he laid on the horn. He threw it in park and rolled the window down.

"Meet you back at the house then?" He asked with a knowing smile.

"Yes, sir." Kane answered before me.

Dad drove off in the direction of home as Kane unlocked his truck. I climbed up inside the cab as he said his goodbyes to his band. Once in the truck, we were off, driving down the main strip of town with people waving at us. I couldn't help the smile that overwhelmed me every time I looked at the ring. Kane reached over, taking my hand in his and bringing it to his lips to kiss the back of my hand as we pulled out of town and onto the back roads that lead to my house.

"I'm guessin' my dad knows about this, but when did you get the chance to ask him? You've been busy on tour." I looked at him.

"Remember when we came an' visited?" Kane asked

"Yeah?" I pressed

"I called him up the night before an' said I had somethin' I wanted to talk about. An' when we got here, I asked him when you went up to bed." Kane beamed

I blushed, "I bet that conversation was interesting."

Kane laughed. We passed my driveway, and I looked back out the window. Kane squeezed my hand, so I sat back in the seat, trusting him. He turned onto a street that felt familiar. Before I knew it, we were pulling through a large gate and disappearing behind a treeline. We broke through and pulled up to the front door of the house that Kane had stayed in when he had been taking a needed break from the public eye. I looked at him as he put the truck in park but didn't make any move to get out. He smiled at me.

"Is this...?" I couldn't breathe.

"But we got some time to look at other houses if you wanna. I just thought It'd be close enough to your dad." Kane said

"Kane." I bit my lip

"An before I forget." Kane said.

He reached behind my seat and pulled out a wad of white paper tied up with twine. He carefully placed it on my lap, grinning at my confused look. First he had proposed. Then he gave me a home close to my father. And now he had one more surprise. I carefully untied the twine and pulled back the wrappings.

My hands shook as I lifted up the neatly folded navy blue dress from the store in town. The one I had been looking at last time we were in Georgia. The same one I had intended on buying that morning but it had been gone. It hit me that it had been gone because Kane had bought it. He could've been in the store and all I would've had to do was walk in and see him, but I hadn't. I slowly turned to face him, tears pricking my eyes.

"Kane..." My voice shook

"I wanna see you wear it for our engagement photos." He reached out, wiping away the stray tears that fell onto my cheeks. "It fit too well to let leave it."

"I didn't even get you anything." I wiped away my tears, feeling embarrassed

*Kane's POV*

I shook my head and leaned over, kissing Sawyer. It was salty and wet from her tears but I loved her too much to be bothered by it. Pulling back, I looked at her with a smile. All traces of her tears were gone, replaced with her shy smile she always wore when I caught her off guard with a kiss. I didn't need anything other than her to say 'yes' to marrying me.

"I don't need anythin'." I whispered

"Ok." She whispered back, peaking at me through her lashes as she blushed.

"Ok." I smiled, giving her another kiss before pulling back.

"How'd you manage to get here without paparazzi?" Sawyer questioned

"I called my band an' we up-an'-left." I shrugged, "We left a message for my manager."

"Kane! You can't keep doing that!" Sawyer laughed, "They're gonna be so mad."

"Yeah." I shook my head and smiled

We fell silent, knowing there was still an unspoken conversation hanging in the air. Sawyer looked down at her lap, fiddling with her ring as she bit her lip. I reached over, resting her chin against my index finger and used my thumb to pull her lip from her teeth. She looked at me.

"Kane - " Sawyer started

"I know. New York." I said

She sighed, "I shouldn't have walked out on dinner. I just got overwhelmed an' it's not that I don't love you, it's that I couldn't stand anymore of that place. An' - "

"I just wish you would'a told me." I shook my head.

"I'm so sorry." Sawyer's voice cracked

"Shh..." I wiped away one of her tears. "I should be apologizin' for yellin' at you. I should'a never done that or accuse you of cheatin'." I pressed our foreheads together.

Sawyer swallowed, "I'm probably out of a job now anyway.."

"I've got someone handlin' it. An' there's gonna be a case on your manager for neglect." I explained, "Sawyer, never do that again. Please."

Sawyer wrapped her hand around my wrist, "I won't. I promise."

"Promise you're gonna come to me next time." I said

"I promise, Kane." Sawyer said

"Good." I whispered. "I was so worried."

"I'm sorry." Sawyer apologized.

"Shh.." I kissed her forehead, "It's alright because we're gonna do this together."

After talking some more in the driveway, I dropped Sawyer off at her house, making sure she made it inside. I drove the few hour drive back to Mama's house where the band had planned to meet. I closed the door behind me and came face-to-face with Mama.

"I heard I'm getting a daughter-in-law! I want all the details over dinner." Mama said
