*Sawyer's POV*

I was sipping a cup of hot tea, looking out the back of the sunroom. It was mid-December and the temperature had been cool for the past few days. I was glad we didn't get snow like they got in New York and other places. I could handle winter in Georgia. No complaints from me.

"There you are! Ready to go?" Kane asked, keys in hand

"Let me finish this first." I said

"How much do you have left? I don't wanna be late." Kane pouted

"Babe, We've got over an hour!" I laughed

Kane continued pouting until I walked into the kitchen, placing my empty mug in the sink. We climbed into his truck and he drove carefully. This was Kane's new issue. He was already being overly cautious. I was glad that he was with me for this appointment though. It had taken a lot of arguing with his manager to get his schedule cleared since Kane hadn't told them yet. Kane used the excuse that we had planned to visit his mother before the holidays. We hadn't told my father or Kane's mother either. We had been advised, by the doctor, to wait until we hit the six week mark before telling anyone else and so we could get an ultrasound picture.

We were careful to make sure we weren't followed, but just to be safe, we had picked a clinic that specialized in a variety of things. We checked in and waited. Kane's knee bounced nervously as he watched the hands on the clock tick, biting his thumb. We were finally called back into the room, and Kane jumped up. I laughed and followed him back.

*Kane's POV*

They went over a bunch of things with Sawyer, most of which I didn't understand other than to make sure she took her vitamins and to get plenty of rest and water. Then came the part I was excited for. Sawyer laid back on the table that they had. She rolled up her shirt and the technician prepped her. I pulled out my phone, ready as they placed the transducer below her belly-button as I hit record.

I couldn't make out anything on the screen but the technician began pointing out things on the screen and finally said the words I had been waiting to hear. Sawyer and I looked at one another, grinning.

"You're about seven weeks, right?" the technician asked

"Just about." Sawyer answered

"Alright. then let me flip this on and we'll see what we can hear." she said

She leaned over, messing with a few things until a loud static sound came through. She watched the screen for a moment as she moved the transducer around a little more before stopping as an even louder and faster rhythm came through. I couldn't help the noise that escaped from me. I clamped my hand over my mouth and leaned back against the counter behind me, glad it was there. I looked at Sawyer, whose expression was similar as her tears welled up. That's my kid's heartbeat. That's my kid!

They gave us copies of the ultrasound pictures. Sawyer stared at them as we pulled out of the parking lot. We were both excited at the news that everything looked good an that we could now share with everyone.

We swung by the mall before heading over to Mama's. Sawyer picked up several things and wrapped them up in a gift bag as I drove us to Mama's house. We had planned on doing Christmas early with her today and then with Sawyer's dad tomorrow as I had to prepare for the New Year's day parade in New York.

*Sawyer's POV*

Tabatha greeted us as we came in. I was instantly greeted with the smell of food and could hear my stomach grumble. Kane placed the presents we had brought under his mother's small tree while she insisted on fixing me a plate. I easily cleared my plate seeing as my most dominant symptom lately was being hungry and having a sensitive nose. Tabatha happily plated some pecan pie for me.

Moving into her beautifully decorated living room, Kane helped distribute the gifts, keeping our special one back for last. Kane's mother opened her gift from me, a mother-daughter necklace, and Kane's gift, a robe and slipper set with soap and lotion. Then came the third gift. She looked confused as she picked it up.

She opened the wooden box and looked over the contents of the inside. On the inside of the lid was the ultrasound and a paper that said 'grandparent starter kit'. Inside the box was a baby onesie, a pair of booties, and a pacifier that said 'mute button'. Her eyes lit up as she looked at me. She got up, squealing with happiness, and hugged me tightly.

"Oh my gosh! When are you due?!" She asked squeezing my hands.

"Early to mid-July." Kane said and she kissed his cheek.

Now all that was left was to handle Dad.

*Kane's POV*

The day had come. Sawyer called me dramatic as I got down and placed a kiss on her stomach, saying goodbye before we headed to her father's house. She tried to assure me that everything would be alright as we drove

I carried in the presents and sat them under the tree as Sawyer greeted her father. He served us dinner and we discussed the harvest and ideas for the spring. Sawyer happily worked on her second piece of peach cobbler while I did the dishes and her father lazily worked on his first beer of the night. We moved into his living room and Sawyer handed out the gifts.

He sat back in his chair as they chatted about old Christmas gifts and funny stories. Sawyer sat beside me, holding my hand as her father opened his presents. She had gotten him a new watch and I had given him the pair of hunting boots and jacket that he had been talking to me about during the harvest.

My heart sped up as he picked up the last gift. Sawyer had gotten name tags and written as many words for 'grandpa' as she could come up with. On top there was a pacifier that read 'pull to sound the alarm'. He looked confused until he reached the bottom, pulling out the ultrasound. His eyebrows shot up and I swallowed hard as my chest tightened. He looked up.

"You're pregnant?" He sat forward and Sawyer nodded.

"Congratulations! I'm gonna be a papa!" He laughed until his eyes landed on me.

He turned serious. "How long have you been married?" He asked

"Three months..." I squeaked out, sounding pathetic. "She's seven weeks along." I added

"Dad..." Sawyer started as he stood up.

I shot up and bolted for the door. He reached for the mantle, but I was already out of sight. He was on my tail as I bolted into the barn, running to the other side of the tractor. He came in after me with Sawyer hot on his heels, yelling at him to stop.

"You got my daughter pregnant!" He yelled

"In my defense, she is my wife." I said and ducked down as he pulled up his gun to take aim.

"You couldn't even wait a year?!" He yelled, putting in back down.

"Dad! Will you put that thing down before someone gets hurt?!" Sawyer yelled

"Hold on, just a minute, Sawyer. I just wanna have a word with your husband." my father-in-law said

He chased me around to the opposite side of the tractor so I was by Sawyer. He came around the back end again, thinking he could cut me off and pulled it up to aim again. Without even thinking, I grabbed Sawyer's arm, pulling her out of the way just before her dad fired, sending a bullet into the tire of his tractor. He froze as he realized what happened and I held Sawyer close, thankful that I had pulled her away when I did or else I could've lost her.

"Sawyer. Honeybee. Are you alright?" Her dad asked

"Now can you put that down..?" Sawyer asked, shaking slightly.

She breathed easier as he set it down on the ground. She continued to hold her hand protectively over her stomach as I protectively held and soothed her.
