Rosie
I woke up with a scream and a sob. I had been snatched away from Harry once again. I realised I was looking up at the night sky with a sharp wind around me. I sat up to see I was on the cliff edge. Grace was close by, one hand holding Kayla whilst the other ran through Luke's hair as he laid weakly across her lap. She was crying quietly, but stopped as Luke reached up to hold her cheek.
"Luke?" I croaked. "Grace? What's going on?"
"I...I tried bringing you both back," Luke murmured. "I was too weak...I..."
"Hey," Grace said softly, holding his chin. "You did so well."
I slowly got to my feet to find Harry's unmoving body lying on the ground beside me. My body fell numb. I was with him only a second ago. If I knew it was our last moment together, I would have said more, done more. I would have held him for longer. The empty feeling of loneliness crept back inside of me, a pain I thought I had escaped.
I weakly fell to my knees beside Luke, taking Kayla from Grace and placing my hand over Luke's.
"I think I'm dying," Luke said. "I hurt everywhere."
I shook my head. "I won't let you die on us, Luke."
Luke gave a small smile. "It's okay," he whispered. "There's something I can do for you."
I gave him a look of confusion. His eyes met mine and it took me a few moments to come to terms with what he meant. "Luke-"
"I can bring him back," he croaked, his eyes felling onto Harry. "It just means..."
I followed his gaze to Harry's unmoving body on the grass. Luke would sacrifice himself, using the last of his energy to make sure we were a family. Grace began to cry softly beside him.
"I always wanted a family," he murmured. I turned back to him. "I'm glad I got to have one."
Kayla began to shift uncomfortably in my arms, growing wary as Grace and I sobbed.
"Thank you...for everything," he whispered. "I finally felt like I belonged."
"No," Grace sobbed, swiping the hair from Luke's forehead and pressing a kiss to the skin. "Don't go."
"Hey," Luke whispered, giving Grace a smile similar to Harry's. "Come here."
Grace leaned down to meet Luke's lips. They kissed tenderly and with such love. Kayla reached up to touch my cheek, her own eyes full of tears. I held Luke's hand tight. Grace pulled back just as Luke finally stopped moving. She held Luke and cried. I reached out to touch her leg in comfort and we both took a moment to think of the unforgettable changes Luke made to our lives.
I jumped as Harry's body suddenly came back to life with a gasp. He sat up coughing and spluttering, looking dazed and confused. I ran and fell to my knees to hold him close. We were both shaking madly. He finally wrapped his arms around me and Kayla and buried his face into my neck.
Once we parted, he reached up to hold my face but looked worried as he saw the tears in my eyes. "What's wrong?"
I began to cry harder than before. Harry's eyebrows furrowed as he looked around us. He scrambled up to his feet at the sight of Luke and held his brother close.
"No," Harry sobbed, resting his head on Luke's. "No, no, no."
Kayla and I finally joined him. I simply put an arm around him in comfort, unsure of how to take away his new sense of loss. I understood the burden of someone sacrificing their life for your own, knowing you would never repay them. All you could do was live your life with love, adventure and hope that the sacrifice was worth it.
I held Kayla and Harry close to me, promising never to let them go for as long as I lived.
