I slowly came back to the world. Everything was blurry and spinning, making me feel nauseous. My head was throbbing and I ached all over. I blinked a few times to better my vision and slowly pulled my body from the carpet. The spinning slowed down so I could make out where I was. The living room was silent. The playpen was empty, and a cold breeze hit me sharply as the backdoor had been left wide open. All of my instincts kicked in, fighting away the dizziness and pain in my head as I stumbled out of the house and down the road, knocking into people and falling into walls every few steps. All I could think about was getting my daughter back.
I finally burst through Luke's front door. The hallway seemed to go on forever. I had a hand on the wall as I stumbled towards the living room door.
"Luke!" I called out weakly. "Where's my daughter?"
I almost fell into the living room where Luke was bouncing Kayla on his side and tickling her tummy as if everything was normal. He knew I was there, but he didn't flinch or even look away from my daughter. I lunged at the man, but he simply extended an arm and clasped my throat in his hold. I fought and clawed at his hand, gasping for air. He finally turned his head to me and our eyes met. They were dark and familiar. I'd stared into those eyes a hundred times before. After my mother was killed before me, after every kill and then finally as he was dragged away in his final moments.
"Samuel," I croaked. The wicked smile appeared on Luke's face. "I...thought you were..."
"Dead?" Luke finished before laughing manically. "No one can kill me, Rosie. You of all people should know that."
"But Luke," I choked. "You look just like him."
"I needed a human body to walk back in this Earth again," he stated. "That waste of space boy wasn't worth anything anyway."
I stuttered in shock and with the hand around my throat tightening I could barely breathe. My eyes darted to my daughter who was gazing at Luke with a smile, her hands playing with his hair as if nothing was happening.
I looked back at Luke. He was smirking at me with his head tilted to one side. My whole body grew cold, but it wasn't long until I was hot with anger. The man who had killed my parents, tried to steal Harry from me and was controlling my daughter was back. I now burned with rage.
My hand gripped his wrist to wrench his grasp from my throat. The smirk morphed into a dark scowl as my strength matched his. Slowly his grip on me was loosening until I was finally free, but I knew I couldn't hit him as he was still holding my daughter on his hip. Instead, I twisted his wrist and smiled as he cried out with pain, causing Kayla to start crying. She was linked to him, physically and emotionally. He had full control of her.
As Luke held his broken wrist to his chest, I darted into the kitchen and slammed the door shut behind me. In desperation, I looked around to find a weapon of some sort. My eyes fell to the knife block and I pulled out the sharpest blade just as the kitchen door swung open behind me.
I spun around with the knife handle gripped in both hands, the blade pointing directly at Luke. He no longer had Kayla with him. I noticed his wrist was still twisted, and his eyes were full of pent up anger. My hands began to shake violently, but I also had pent up anger I would use to my advantage.
"I will hurt you," I warned. "Don't get any closer to me."
Luke smirked. "You would stab your husband's brother, really?"
"You're not Luke," I spat. "You haven't been for a while."
"Clever girl," Luke replied, taking a step towards me.
