I stepped into the cottage to find it worryingly quiet. I hung my hoodie back up by the door and strode into the living room and then the kitchen. Both rooms were empty.
I prepared myself for the worst. Every muscle in my body was tense and rage was burning in my eyes. I marched up the stairs, missing every other step, before rushing into our empty bedroom. I took a deep breath and burst into Kayla's nursery, but the sight before me calmed me instantly. Rosie had climbed into Kayla's cot, her small frame allowing her to do so. I let out a sigh of relief and grinned over at the two girls fast asleep together. The morning sun was pouring light into the room through the gap in the curtains. I tiptoed over to the curtains and closed them to darken the room once again. With a smile, I sat down in the rocking chair and watched them for a while until my tiredness got the better of me. Waking up early to the cries of Kayla, hunting for blood and my attempt to sleep being interrupted by the appearance of my half-brother suddenly caught up with me. I let my eyes close and my body relax until I fell into a deep sleep.

I woke up to the gentle shaking of my shoulder. I peeled my eyes open to see Rosie stood over me with a warm smile. Kayla was absent from her cot. I jolted upright.
"She's with Grace downstairs," Rosie explained, resting a hand on my shoulder. I slowly relaxed as she sat on my lap. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her neck.
"Are you alright now?" she asked.
I nodded with a yawn. "I needed some time to clear my head."
She smiled, the crinkles by her eyes making my stomach flip over inside of me. "Are you going to see Luke again?"
I hesitated. "I-I think so."
"I'm here to support you."
I nodded and smiled. "I know."
"Good." Rosie climbed back off of me. "I need to go out," she said.
I frowned. "Why?"
"Kayla's hungry and she's pretty grumpy about it. It's my turn to hunt."
I jumped up to my feet. "No, that's my job. You stay here with Kayla."
Rosie smiled. "I can look after myself, Harry. I have the control. I can do it."
I shook my head sternly. "I'm the man of the house, Rosie. I hunt and you protect."
Rosie laughed sarcastically. "It's not the stone age. We both hunt and we both protect. I'm going out and you can't stop me."
I instantly took that as a challenge. "Is that so?"
Rosie nodded and turned to leave, but I grabbed her arm and led her up to the nearest wall. She smirked as I pressed her body tight against it, letting my warm breath fan over her lips.
"You're not going anywhere," I whispered before leaving a kiss to her neck. She groaned softly at my actions, but her small hands started to push at my chest.
"Kayla needs feeding," she murmured, but as the seconds passed, her hands began to fist the front of my shirt. She pulled me in closer, whispering "more" between shaky breaths. I let my hands grab at her hips to push her harder against the wall. She let out a satisfied grunt as her hand ran down my body. Rosie noticed me tense up and held my chin in her other hand. I leaned into her touch.
"Just relax," she murmured, mimicking the words I told her when we tried being intimate all that time ago. She maintained eye contact with me, waiting until I nodded to cup my crotch softly. I sucked in a breath through my teeth and squeezed my eyes shut. The sensation of tingles running through my body was something I could never get used to. It was a cold and scary feeling, knowing I wasn't in complete control of my own body. It reminded me of when I used to drink. I was numb, but felt so much at the same time. Rosie's steady breathing encouraged me to concentrate on my own breaths. After a few moments I was able to open my eyes.
