Shadows danced on the wall as the firelight jumped. Firewood crackled as it was slowly eaten by flames. Jisoo sat down next to Lisa and set down a mug. The hot chocolate steamed in the slowly warming air. Both of their cheeks were bright red and wind burned. They had spent the entire day playing in the snow. Three large snowmen stood outside the cabin door, a snow woman and her snow baby all stood around, facing away from the foggy windows.
Lisa stared out the window and the slowing snow. Even after they came in, the snow continued to float to the ground from the cloudy sky. Standing up, she glanced at the yard. There was another thick layer of snow covering their tracks from the active day they had. An idea sparked in her head as she grabbed her boots and coat. "What are you doing," Jisoo asked in an amused tone.
Lisa shot her a quick smile as she laced her boots. Once she was suited up for the weather, she ran and collected Jisoo's things. She set them all down on the couch and told Jisoo to put them on. "Why?"
"We forgot to do one important thing today."
"Which is," Jisoo asked as she laced her boots with cold fingers.
"Snow angels." They smiled at each other as Lisa ran around, gathering last-minute items. She found a thick, colorful scarf and wrapped it around her girlfriend's neck and placed purple earmuffs on her head. Once they were fully suited up, the two walked outside in the pitch-black night.
The only light illuminating the still scene in front of them was from the lights coming out of the windows. After finding a spot covered in untouched snow, Lisa carefully dropped to her back. She spread out her long limbs as Jisoo giggled at her. Stepping over to the side, the second girl threw herself on her back too. They slid their arms and legs through the thick blanket, forming large piles of snow around them.
Jisoo turned her head to look at Lisa. Her long honey brown hair was covered in snowflakes. Her eyelashes had even caught some, little droplets covering her entire face in ice crystals. She smiled to herself and stretched her hand out, catching Lisa's.
At the contact, the tall girl turned to look at her. Jisoo's black hair was just as covered in snow. Both of them thought the other looked ethereal, like a real angel, all covered in snow and rosy-cheeked. Lisa laced their fingers together and smiled back at Jisoo. After wordlessly watching each other get steadily buried in more snow, Jisoo rubbed her thumb across Lisa's knuckles.
"Come on. It's too cold out here. Let's go get warmed up." Lisa nodded in agreement and they carefully stood up. They walked back to the cabin and ran up the front steps. Their finger and toes were numb, a chill running bone-deep.
"Our clothes are soaked," Lisa commented. Jisoo nodded and started stripping out of her winter gear.
"Let's go change and sit by the fire." Both girls walked back to the chilly bedroom and gathered dry clothes. It was too cold to change in the dark so they went back to the living room, shut the window curtains, and started changing. Lisa tugged on a thick brown turtle neck and warm black sweat pants. She ran back to the bedroom to lit the fireplace as Jisoo dressed.
Jisoo pulled on a grey thermal shirt, thick jogging pants, and fluffy, colorful knee socks. She threw their wet clothes in the bathtub to dry out a little and found Lisa sitting on the end of their bed watching the fire, poker in hand. "Hey. Are you ready for hot chocolate?" Lisa nodded and put the fire poker away and wrapped her arms around Jisoo's waist. She dropped a kiss on the back of Jisoo's head and they waddled to the couch together.
Lisa pulled a heavy afghan over them as Jisoo found a Christmas movie to watch. They pulled the coffee table closer and blew on their fresh mugs of hot chocolate. Lisa snuggled into Jisoo's side as the couple laid on the couch together, slowly warming up after making their hand holding snow angels.
