"How is she," Rosé asked. The surgeon took off his mask and smiled at the teary woman in front of him.
"She's unconscious. We were able to stop the bleeding and patch her up. We don't know how long she'll be asleep, but it could be awhile. Just give her time. I have some of my best nurses wheeling her into a suite now. They'll take you to her when she's settled. If you'll excuse me," he said. The surgeon smiled at Rosé and patted her hand gently as three women came through the doors behind the pair and rolled Jisoo out.
Jisoo smiled at Rosé as they sat under the warm midmorning sun. The woman, whose bright hair matched the soft color of a tea rose, reached over and popped a shining green grape in her friend's mouth. Her skin almost seemed to shimmer in the bright light of day as she laid back on her elbows and closed her eyes to soak in the sun's rays. Her white tank top with delicate bows on the straps didn't make her any easier to look at as the blouse reflected the glow from above. "You know, Jisoo, I've missed having these little dates with you," Rosé said. "It's been so long."
"What do you mean," Jisoo asked her. "We went to eat together last week." Rosé looked over at her bestie.
"That wasn't last week. You were still in London." Jisoo leaned back on her hands and stared at Rosé in confusion.
"I've never been to London, Rosie." The orange-pink-haired girl laughed and shook her head.
"Jisoo, you know you went to London with Mr. Jeon! You met Lisa there." As they spoke, a little grey bunny came hopping lightly over to the pair and took a celery stick in its little paws. "Aw," Rosé cooed. She picked up the rabbit and held it close to her face. "He's just so adorable!"
"Yeah," Jisoo said uncertainly. "You shouldn't touch him though, he might get you sick."
"Psh." Rosé sat the rabbit down on her lap and gave it another celery stick. He looked so dark against her magenta skirt dotted with white flowers. "You take better care of Thumper than that."
"I take better care of him? What do you mean?" Rosé opened her mouth to answer her but nothing came out. Her eyes widened and her back arched unnaturally before she gasped in pain. She collapsed to the side to reveal Lisa standing behind her with a bloody knife in hand. The attacker's blonde hair was back in a tight ponytail and she was dressed head to toe in dark clothes and a brown duster.
Jisoo screamed as the bunny raced off. A pool of blood spread around the white and yellow checkered picnic blanket, staining Jisoo's rose-pink skirt and the sleeves of her cornflower-blue blouse. She scrambled backward as Lisa stalked forward silently with no emotion in her dull brown eyes. Tears rolled down the older woman's face as she turned to crawl away as fast as she could. By the time she got to her feet and started running to the dark forest several yards away, Lisa was hot on her trail.
All the beautiful, warm sunlight faded away the second Jisoo's bare feet hit the forest floor. No light penetrated the thick woods nor did anything move. Jisoo streaked ahead into the brush in a desperate attempt to get away though she might as well have been holding a blinking sign with her bright attire. She stopped to catch her breath behind a tree and looked back in the direction she came from and only saw a distant horizon of sunlight. When she turned around, she felt the knife once again enter her body.
