The world had no color for single people. Some couples didn't even have color in their world. The reward for finding your soulmate is the color that comes with it. Until you find your one and only, the world is black and white.
Lisa huffed as she looked around the park. Everything was still grey, black, and white. No color. No real color. Getting to her feet, Lisa walked back to the sidewalk. For the last few months, the girl had started actively looked for her soulmate. She knew a lot of people started looking early, finding the person for them as young as middle school. But they were the lucky ones. It was normal for people to play around and date in high school and college without searching for their other half, and Lisa fell in the latter.
Not completely, she just didn't look for a long time. She figured the love her life would come to her when they were meant to, but now, she was tired of waiting. Especially in the last couple of weeks, Lisa had felt this flutter in her chest. Like she was so close to finding that special person. In preparation, she tracked down a stylist that had met their soulmate to change her hair. She wanted to be colorful for her soulmate. Her mom and dad told her she had black hair, but black was such a boring color.
After only seeing black, white, and shades of grey, she wanted color. Needed it. Putting all of her trust in the hairdresser, the kind woman dyed her hair blonde and added pink streaks. "When you meet that special someone, you'll take their breath away with this color," the hairdresser told her. "And for the rest of your lives, you'll both remember this color."
Two weeks later, everything was still dull and boring. Finding a crosswalk, Lisa stood to wait. The flutter in her chest was back but her hope was sinking. Maybe she was about to die and the fluttering was a serious condition she needed to be checked out. Just her luck. Cars started going down the street, thinning out until the road was mostly clear. A girl that had come from the other end of the sidewalk abruptly dashed across the street, narrowly missing a car.
Lisa's eyes hit her back and the world exploded. Red. Not just red but violet and every other shade she had been told about. The girl was gorgeous with long red hair fading to purple. She was unearthly beautiful and all Lisa's. "Stop," Lisa screamed.
Jisoo turned as someone yelled. Spinning on her heels, her eyes searched the grey and black street. Grey, black, grey, dark grey, white, light grey, black, yellow. It was like Jisoo had seen the sun for the first time in her life. The bright yellow halo with pink streaks surrounding a beautiful face across the street. She was staring back at Jisoo, lips parted in wonder.
Great minds think alike, after all. She had her hair dyed to an eyecatching red fading to purple for her soulmate. But no matter how pretty Jisoo's hair color was, yellow was by far the most beautiful to her. The most magnificent color to exist. Time suspended as the traffic slowly came to a stop. The crosswalk gave them the light to go and in unison, they both took a step forward.
