It had been a couple of days since the thing with Newt, and the builders, baggers, and anyone with serious muscles dug around the pipe from one of the toilets. It was a little nasty, but needed to be done.
The hole was four feet deep, when someone hit something. It was a larger Hole, and was filled with rotting food, bugs, and dead stray animals.
Sloppers cleaned it out and we continued. The sun seemed hotter than all the days before. I bet the creators were making it that way just to make us miserable.
I stayed close to Gally and Red. They were the only ones who either weren't afraid of me, or too stubborn to talk to a girl. Like they were so much better than me.
"So, this was your idea?" Rob asked.
I blew a stray hair away from my face and replied.
"Yeah."
He chuckled softly, and I spun on my heel to look at him. No, make that 'shoot my eye lasers at his stupid face'.
"A girl, of all things."
I was so sick and tired of being tossed under the griever hole just because I was female.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
I walked up to him, and he towered over me by like four feet.
"I mean, girls aren't that smart. If they were, then more would be here, don't you think?"
We both had dropped our shovels, and were right in each other's faces.
"Well I'm here. So that means I'm smarter than all of you." I wasn't a naturally aggressive person, but I shoved his shoulder a little before leaping out of the hole.
Some of the other diggers had stopped to witness our little squabble.
"Ha. I bet you barely passed. You would have had trouble with the fighting part, you know."
I looked at my thin arms, and a small part of me wanted to agree with him. But I'll be shucked if I just give up.
"Brave words, coming from..." I indicated his body with my finger, "that."
Reds nose curled upwards, and I stepped over, went behind him, and pushed. He fell forward into the hole, and a couple people laughed.
"Please refrain from applause. It distracts the amazing Grace." I told the group. They cheered and clapped as I looked down into the hole.
He leaped out, and we started circling each other. It was less of a fight, more of a time to show who was better.
He made the first move, and I rolled to the ground and popped up behind him.
"Catch me!" I taunted.
I evaded once, then He swept my legs, and I landed on my hands with a grunt. He jumped on top of my back, and pushed my hands farther into the dirt. I couldn't move, he was too heavy.
"Not so Cocky now." He whispered, smiling. I grunted, and heard a familiar voice, Newts.
"I think she's had enough."
It was weird how you could be unconscious for more than a week and be perfectly fine after.
"No! I can do it!" I yelled at Newt. I struggled, then faked giving up. After a few seconds I kicked my leg up behind me and kicked him in the butt.
He fell off me, and I got back to my feet. I looked down to see my nails chipped and bleeding.
"Oh, now you're goin' down."
I reached behind me and grabbed a limb of my tree. In one swift motion, I was balanced on it like a cat.
Red reached up and pulled the branch down. I almost fell off, but was thankful that the branch was thick.
"You show 'em Grace!" I heard Gally yell. Then Newt was standing beside him, telling him I didn't need encouragement to get hurt.
"Come on, Lynn! Just stop! It proves nothing!" I heard him yell. I loved him, but I could make my own decisions.
"Shut up! It proves everything!"
Red had started climbing up the tree, which was a huge mistake. When he was on one of the smaller branches, I kicked it, and he fell off.
Landing with a thud, he yelped. I jumped off gracefully and landed on my feet.
I straddled his torso with my legs, and pushed into his clavicle.
"Owww!! Ok ok ok!!!!" He yelled. I pressed farther.
"Ok what?" I asked sweetly.
"Girls are just as capable as boys. Now get off me!!!"
I let him go and wiped the dirt from my face. I ran to the group and got slaps on the shoulder. Gally was smiling widely at me, showing he was proud.
Newt puckered his lips, and tried to scowl, but it came out as a small grin instead.
I jogged over to Gally first, and he planted a small kiss on my forehead.
"Good job showing that slag-bag how to fight. Almost as good as me."
I slapped him on his tummy, and ran away to the deadheads.
Newt followed me, looking angry.
"What was that?!" He growled when he met me.
I shrugged like a teen to their parents.
He huffed, and said, "Look, I need to make sure your alright. I couldn't bloody stand it if you got hurt again."
I giggled at him, and put my hands behind his head. I brought him closer, and lightly kissed his nose. Then his lips.
All his anger melted away. He kissed back and was so sweet and soft with his hands, I started to laugh hysterically.
"What?" He looked worried, like he did something wrong.
"Nothing."
But I kept laughing and had to lean against a tree to keep from falling over.
He just stared at me with his brown orbs, and smiled, but didn't know what I was laughing about.
"You are so weird. First you get all protective...*hiccup*...then you break my heart into a trillion pieces. It's so... hypocritie..."
He smiled and wrapped his long arms around my waist.
"Hypocritie? Is that a word?"
I give him a mock pointed look.
"Is shuck-face a real word? No. That doesn't mean It doesn't describe you perfectly."
I kiss him again, and our teeth clank. Oops. He doesn't seem to notice.
"Yeah, I suppose your right." His british accent was driving me crazy. It was so adorable and different...
"Sir Newt, would you like to passionately make out under the stars tonight? I hear it is a lovely experience."
He was surprised first, my accent sounded perfect, but then realized what I was doing. His mouth formed weird shapes as he tried an American accent.
"Ay do neowt ka-know."
It was so bad I laughed again.
"Come on." I said while pulling him farther into the forest.
I spent a while teaching him how to say boddle instead of bottle.
"Now say, 'the boddle is full of waūtt êr'."
He did it and I kissed him. That was his prize.
"I love you Newt." I said in my flawless accent.
"I love you too, Lynn." He said, in his not so flawless American one.
