So. Newt telling Alby didn't work out too well.
We were sentenced to a week in the slammer while they figured everything out.
By we, I mean Gally, Newt and I. We weren't treated like criminals, just on some kind of house arrest.
The slammer was about seven feet by ten, and there wasn't a lot of room to sleep.
We didn't talk much. Gally didn't like Newt and Newt didn't like Gally.
I tried to start conversations.
"Gally, What's your favorite food?"
He didn't look up. I said it louder.
"Huh? Oh, tomatoes and broccoli."
"Cool. And what about you, Newt?" My voice was somewhat raspy.
"Ham and cheese."
So he liked cheese.
"Cool." They both ignored me and went back to sulking in the corner.
There wasn't much to think about. Just the knowledge that a lot of people were going to die.
We were on weird sleep cycles. I stayed up most of the night, not really sleeping. Newt tried to stay up with me, but fell asleep. Gally slept the most, but still not enough. They had circles under their eyes, and I can only imagine what mine looked like.
We got food and water daily. It was just so boring. There was awkward silences and hate glares between them.
One day, Newt shoved passed Gally and tripped.
"Okay, that's enough. I'm so totally done with you two."
I banged on the bars, and Chuck came over.
"Chuck, is there another room?"
He hesitated, then nodded.
"Can I please move to it?"
He shook his head again, and curls went everywhere.
"No, sorry. It's too small."
I looked at the cell I was in, and remembered it from the outside. It was probably small.
I let out a huff that blew my hair back.
"Fine." Then I spun on my heel to face Gally.
"GET OVER HERE!" He looked surprised, but obeyed. I grabbed him by the shoulders and sat him down, facing the wall. I stomped over to Newt, and did the same thing. They both tried to turn around, but I snapped.
"NO ONE TURNS AROUND UNTIL YOU CAN BE NICE TO EACH OTHER!" Then I plunked down to watch. Gally had him arms folded defiantly, and Newt was staring at the ceiling.
They stayed like that until night. Chuck had lit the lantern and a faint glow was filling the room.
Newt started to nod off, but I clapped in his ear, and he jerked awake.
"Face the wall." I told him. He tried to turn around, but I yelled, "Ey!" and her turned back around quickly.
It was around mid-night when Newt spoke.
"Gally," he spat, "Can we agree that this is stupid?"
Gally didn't answer at first. Then he hissed, "It's not stupid just because she's making us stare at a shucking wall."
I made a low rumble noise in my throat. He glanced at me and mouthed sorry.
"Fine, no. It's just stupid. Can we get along?"
