Running Errands
I slid out of bed
Slipped into a dress.
Last evening had been
Not what I expected.
The confession surprised
More than it should.
The heart was clear
But the head confused.
"Now is not the time
Need to focus instead
Get some work done
For now, forget what was said"
I sat at my desk
Wrote a letter
To let Patty know
Of this mess.
Next came the usual
The quarterly query
To Gus, Gabe, and sons
A telegram to them
Was to be send
asking
"Is there any property
Available around Carson City?"
I spotted Rue and the sheriff
In animated conversation
As I passed by Stop Go Station.
It was a no luck day
The post was closed
No telegrams to be sent
I'll have to wait for another day.
I snooped around the tracks
Talked to the station master
No news was to be had.
The noon train arrived
Brought sorrow
To Strop and Rob
I saw them at the platform
Emotionally distraught.
Quietly I walked away
Back to town
Tried to speak to Annie
But she was distracted
More interested in Bart
Who was in a race
With his brother Brett
But both had lost.
Bumped into the sheriff
Asked him out to Brunch.
Myna's an angel
She always kept
The cafe doors open
And a table
Specially reserved
For the two of us.
There was Brody outside
The saloon talking to a beauty
She said she came
All the way from Newfoundland
Travelled 3500 miles
Living off of only coffee.
I asked her for an interview
Which she happily agreed
But only after she'd slept
A couple of nights.
Suddenly I saw a familiar face
Running at a fast pace
It was Raven
Got back from somewhere
With Tiger sleeping him in arms.
I followed him to the stable
Heard him talk to Rosette
About Tiger's condition.
Raven was visibly upset
So, I invited him to brunch
That's all I could do for him
Hope the sheriff didn't mind.
I made a visit to the store
Bought a hammock for two
Kept it by the lemon trees
When he finds it
He can hang it the yard.
I went back
to meet the sheriff
To tell about
The addition to brunch
When a shot rang out.
There was running in the street
Commotion all around
Mr. Denver had been shot.
The doc was called
The family informed
An investigation started
To find the criminal
Who tried to rip
That family apart.
