I must have dozed off in my chair
I hear a soft chuckle
I rouse, "Someone there?"
Betsy said,
"Some redhead, but she left."
I quickly get up from my desk.
I run outside,
I just needed to see her
But then I had spied,
"Bella?"
We talked for a while.
I had missed that smile.
She gave me a gift
My spirits slightly lift.
On her cheek, I leave a kiss.
Bella leaves me with a promise.
To see her in a bit
I'm looking forward to it.

Then I see her, standing nearby
She looks so awkward
Annie says, "Hi?
Is this a bad time?"
"No, it's not a bad time.
How are you?"
"I...umm... well
I heard about Lou."
I press my lips together
I give a cough
Trying to shrug
The emotions off.
"Yeah, it uh...
it hurts."
"I'm sorry.
I... I know you loved her."
She lightly touches my arm.
My mind jumps to what if...
What if I let it happen again and
Annie comes to harm.
