Hope
Bruce saw red
as he glimpsed
Lou and Pearce on the bed
joined in a kiss
He'd been prepared for the worst,
but not for this.
In the sudden flash of anger
he realized that he couldn't lose Lou.
And he realized that she probably
already knew
more about his feelings
than he'd want her to.
He crossed the floor,
grabbed Pearce's shirt
drew his fist back,
but had time for no more.
Lou grabbed his hand
and held him back.
"Bruce! Please stop!"
There was a crack
Lou looked down
She could not believe
The red seeped through
As she started to bleed.
"Lou!" Bruce let go of Pearce
Caught her in his arms
How did this happen?
How did she come to harm?
Pearce grabbed Bruce's gun
"I told her not to come back!"
He smashed another pane
He was on the attack.
"Hold on Lou,"
Bruce tried to staunch the blood
But there is nothing he could do.
The shot had gone clean through.
"I'm sorry," Lou said,
"I had such hope for you."

Another shot fired
Pearce flew back dead
There was a sniper somewhere
Placed a bullet in his head.
Shots fired one, two
Coming from outside
Silence,
Bruce held onto Lou
and cried.
That's how Billy found him
Bruce sitting on the floor
Tears on his face
Lou was no more

"Bruce, they are getting away."
He threw him a star
"We get vengeance today."
