Leo Write - Flashback
We had to make a stop
A few miles out of County
Sitting pretty was no good
Made Myna feel lousy.
Bella and Annie helped Myna
Take a quick stroll
Harriet kept an eye on them
I feed the horses strawberry rolls.
Lace and CM made strange eyes
So, I let them be
My mind wandered back to Leo
Sitting in the wagon, under a shady tree.

"What's going on here?
Ron, why didn't you call me?"
I walked into the room in Tent city
And questioned the persons three.
"He got shot!
Fell off the train!
He's goin' to jail
He's a rattlebrain!"
"Ron stop that jig
And give me the key
Scoot on out
And leave us be"
"CG is that you, you look ..."
Ron left and closed the door
"Just as I used to be"
I cut Leo short before he said more.
"What's wrong, sheriff?
What has he done now?"
"He's not answering me, CG
He's not saying how."
"I ain't done nothin' wrong
I ain't answerin' to that clown"
"Shut up, Leo" we both growled
"You will before it's sundown"
The sheriff gave me a nod
I sat at the end of the bed
"Come on Leo, tell us how
You ended up at tracks nearly dead"
He wiped his head with his sleeve
and gulped once or twice.
"I was in trouble
I had no choice."
"We were plannin' to skip town
Around midnight
When I got whacked
and there was not a soul in sight.
When I woke
My head was in a sack
They punched and kicked me
Dang it! I heard my ribs crack.
I knew I was a goner
The Judge's men show no mercy
But then they asked about you
I knew I was in trouble dirty."
"Me?" "Her?"
"But why?"
Leo shrugged
And sighed.
"I couldn't tell them
I never did know.
They swung me off the train
When it got slow."
Leo shut his eyes
And leaned back
When a thought stuck me
Smack.
"Leo ... why did you think
The judge's men were after you
Don't tell me ...
Did you rat on Lou?"
"I am ... sorry ... CG
What else could I do?"
I sprang at him
For what he had done to Lou.
He tried to slip away
But I strangled him by his collar
strong fingers wrapped my wrists
"Caroline, he isn't worth the bother"
The sheriff words echoed
As we both stepped away
Leo burst into coughs
In Tent City, he'd have to stay.
We left Ron to keep a watch
But before we could talk
I had to leave instantly for County
To buy baby clothes stock.

"CG, wake up!" Bella yelled
"Stop that! There's no need to worry"
Everyone was seated
So we continued on our Journey.
