Illiana's POV
7 years earlier...
"What's up nerdy girl?" Carlo McGregor said with his usual annoying voice. I'm his favourite of all the nerd girls that he's bullying. Makes sense because I'm the youngest and the smartest in our class, putting him as second honour.
He is the youngest son of Stephen McGregor, the current vice mayor of L.A., and his ego can't accept the fact that he will soon lose to a fourteen year old girl. I was offered by our school to be accelerated from grade eight to grade ten. I refused at first because I'm not in a rush to graduate and I like to take my time but when dad came to know about the offer, he insisted that I accept it.
"Where's your daddy? Can I buy coke from him?" he said sardonically which caused our classmates to laugh.
"Good research" Was all I said as I open my physics book to review but he snatched it away from me. I don't know where he got the idea that dad is doing illegal business, but I'm guessing he got the information from his father.
"Why study when you can just pay the teachers and donate to the school, I'm pretty sure you'll take the valedictorian award" I clenched my fist to control my anger. One thing that I hate the most is when people accuses me of something that I'm not doing.
"Is that what you did the previous years?" I sneered. Our classmates are surprised when I answered back because I usually ignore him.
I stared at him blankly as he lifted my physics book, he's pissed off and I know that he's going to hit me with it.
"Carlo" I sighed in relief when our teacher finally arrived.
"Courting should be done outside of the class" he added as he put down his laptop on his table.
"Courting my ass" Carlo said after throwing my book in front of me. He didn't remove his glare at me until he sat on his chair. God knows how much I want to punch him in the face but I know that I can't do it because I can't even kill a single fly.
I immediately ran out of my class as soon as the bell rang. I didn't eat my lunch earlier because I know that Carlo and his friends will make fun of me in the canteen. I called my driver to ask if he's already outside but to my dismay, he got stuck in traffic and I have to wait for another twenty minutes.
I went to the farthest area of the park to eat my packed lunch. I'm so hungry and my glucose is already running low that it's causing my hands to tremble. I was about to start to eat when Carlo and three of his friends arrived while grinning at me evilly.
"Please not this time" I pleaded almost whispering. My eyes are getting blurry, I glanced on my watch and saw that my glucose level already dropped to 40mg/dl.
They laughed as Carlo shoved away my food from my hand. The salad and steamed salmon that mom prepared for me scattered to the ground.
"Please-" I didn't get the chance to finish what I'm going to say because my body already failed me. I fell to the ground and my head landed on my lunchbox.
"What did you do man!" I heard one of them said before everything went blank.
I woke up with the sound of my mom and dad fighting. I gazed up and noticed that the ceiling is painted with clouds and angels, I'm pretty sure I'm not in my room. I was about to move when I felt a stinging pain on my right hand and saw the hose of dextrose connected on it.
