Fandom Pressure

The one thing I hate about being in a fandom is the pressure. You follow all those tumblr accounts and edit makers and you fangirl over your OTP's, but the fangirl themselves are disgusting sometimes.

You are expected to "use all your savings on books". There are I don't know how many people saying things like, "bought another four books from Amazon!! I'm so broke!!" and I'm like, okay, good for you. And then you say something like, "Went shopping today! Got new shoes, hear awesome camo pants and a new sketch pad!" and people say, "oh? I thought you would've gotten [insert new book here], guess you mustn't be in the fandom as much as I thought." And it really pisses me off. No, this hasn't happened to me, but I've seen this happen. I mean, some people don't get money a lot and actually need to save up to buy what they actually need?? and don't say something like, "you need books" because I know that jesus but what about personal health? it's really annoying. And also, one of my friends came over to my house like a year ago and she looked at my newly installed bookshelf and said, "is that all you have?I have like triple more." when actually I had only just managed to squeeze all my books on the shelf and here Were more downstairs and also on the windowsill. I usually borrow books from friends or the library so obviously I don't keep them. I don't have any sort of ereader (apart from wattpad) so I only get physical books. it really annoyed me, I mean, ONE of us i saving their money for their future!

And also, the thing that annoys me most out of any fandom, is the "True Fan" crap. They repost useless stuff like, "I LUVD DA BOOK WHEN IT WAS A DAY OLD!!1!1!!1 #TRUFAN". like, no. you're a 'true fan' if you actually love the book or whatever is is and don't just read it for the popularity levels or whatever. All this stuff about how old you've loved it is irrelevant. Also, ALSO, you're expected to buy every sort of merchandise there is and only speak quotes from your fandom? please. I am desperately in love with loads of books/movies/tv shows but i have a social life, too! I'm not giving up part of my happiness because of the expectations of people who will probably not be there in ten years.
