"Are you sure this isn't a date? It sounds like it's a date," says Sarah as she lets her fingers slip across the fabric of one of the dresses Clementine has hung up on her.

From behind her, Sarah hears a muffled response. "Honestly, I'm not sure," replies Clementine as she pulls another dress over her head before heading to the mirror and fixing her messy curls into an updo. "I don't mind if it's a date," she says, catching Sarah's raised eyebrow in the mirror.

Clementine smiles to herself as she returns her gaze to her reflection. Her skin seems to glow and her eyes burn brightly as she focuses her gaze on the woman looking back at her in the mirror. She looks happy for the first time in a few months. Already she feels the grief of her breakup fade away and as she applies her perfume, Clementine allows herself to think about a future where she doesn't wake up every morning missing Gabe.

"Can you zip me up?" asks Clementine to Sarah as she drags her gaze away from the mirror. Sarah nods and crosses the distance from the wardrobe to the bedroom and pulls the zip from the bottom of the dress up to the hem. Sarah places her hands on Clementine's shoulders and twists her around, smiling at her appearance and the simple yet elegant outfit Clementine has donned for the evening ahead.

"I think it's a date," repeats Sarah with a wink as she pulls away from her friend and sits on the edge of the bed. Clementine turns back to the mirror and bites her lip as she struggles to contain her growing smile.

"I don't know if she even dates women Sarah," says Clementine as she tries to convince herself that this might not be a date, it could just be two new friends exploring the city.

"Didn't you say you used to see her with a woman around the apartment complex?"

"Yeah, but we're two women hanging out right now and we're not dating. So that theory doesn't really work" says Clementine as she tries to slick down her baby hairs.

Sarah smiles and tucks a free strand of hair behind her ear as she stands and makes her way to the front door. "Regardless of if it's a date or not, you look lovely and Violet's a lucky woman to spend the evening with you."

Clementine turns to watch Sarah leave the flat and mouths 'thank you' to her before sitting down at her vanity, waiting for 7 pm to roll around.

Violet exhales as she stands outside Clementine's apartment door, she looks at the ornate number nineteen labelled just below the peephole. She raises her hand to knock, before lowering it for a moment while she holds her breath and smooths down her shirt. Only when she's happy with her appearance and her nerves have settled does she lift her hand once more and knock on the sturdy door.

Clementine opens the door right away, "hi," she says breathlessly, a rosy glow spreading across the bridge of her nose.

"Hey," replies Violet as she quickly lets her eyes fall to Clementine's outfit, "you look beautiful," Violet says, her voice tapering off as shyness overcomes her.

Clementine grabs a jacket from the coat rack and exits the apartment, smiling to herself as she blushes at the compliment. The brunette locks the door behind her and turns to face Violet, feeling familiar faded moods of happiness and desire begin to grow.

"Thank you," she whispers, clutching her bag in both hands in front of her stomach, she leans closer to Violet as she struggles to contain her smile. "Can I ask you a question?" she says, her voice bubbly with excitement.

"Of course," replies Violet as she relishes in the brunette's eagerness.

Clementine takes a step closer and leans so she can whisper in Violet's ear, her perfume is soft and subtle. Violet feels calm from the scent wafting around her head. "Is this a date?" says Clementine, her cheek brushing lightly against Violet's. Violet closes her eyes and savours in having the brunette so close to her.
