Violet awakens in her dorm room, alone.

It's dark but the red light emitting from Violet's alarm clock tells the blonde that it's almost time to get up for class. She flops back on the pillow and exhales. Loudly.

She looks over to Brody's side of the room and sighs to see that it's almost completely void of anything that signifies that it belongs to the girl with auburn hair. Normally a pile of books sit on the windowsill, shoes are lined up underneath the bed and Brody's medication for her anxiety is piled on the bedside table. Yesterday afternoon Brody packed all of these items into a rucksack in preparation for the trip most of the school were heading out for early this morning. It had been advertised as a weeklong getaway to a mountainous resort, and all students with good grades and behaviour would be invited to attend.

Violet hadn't been invited.

Her poor grades and bad attendance had warranted her absence from the expedition with extra tuition classes in its place. For some, this would be a raw deal, but Violet doesn't mind too much. Violet is okay with being alone, plus she has a lot of thinking to do.

Mostly thinking about Clementine Everett. Whom Violet has a crush on.

But Violet can't act on these feelings because she's sure that Clementine is straight. In Clementine's first year of attending Ericson's, she detailed a relationship with a boy called Gabe, but she broke it off not long after moving into the dorms. Normally that would put a pin in Violet's feelings but Clementine spends a lot of her time talking to Violet, placing her hands on Violet's shoulders, waist or small of her back.

These touches set Violet's heart racing because she's infatuated with the younger girl. Violet literally dreams of Clementine, she dreams of kissing her, holding her hands, touching her skin unobstructed by clothing. Violet wakes from these dreams flustered and hot with her heart pounding and an ache growing in her lower stomach. Violet may just be misreading the signals but she's wondering if there's something more to the brunette in the baseball cap.

Violet's thoughts shift back to Clementine Everett as they often do. She thinks about the dark wavy hair that Clementine always wears in pigtails, her eyes which are a shade of brown so light they almost look gold. Violet thinks of Clementine's body, her toned legs, her flat stomach and slender figure.

Violet feels a familiar sensation spread through her body and forces herself to stop thinking of the brunette.

She turns on the lamp by her bed and rouses from her covers, digging through her wardrobe for clothes for the day. She has a math class in fifteen minutes. Violet wonders who else will be joining her, who else has behaved badly enough to warrant the exclusion of the snowboarding trip. She wonders if she'll be alone.

Violet dresses and exits her dorm heading to the girl's communal bathroom just three doors down from her dormitory. Normally it's impossible to get to the mirrors and showers, but today it's empty. Violet wets her toothbrush as she wonders if she's the only student in the entire school who's been left behind. Violet has been left behind a lot in her life.

She finishes brushing her teeth and steps out into the corridor. Standing still Violet turns her head in both directions listening to the deafening silence all around her. Maybe she is all alone. Again. Regardless she heads to her class, dragging her feet as she opens the door to the hall and checking her phone for texts. There's nothing.

She spots the door for her lecture and smiles when she hears laughter coming from inside the room. Violet opens the door, making eye contact with her teacher before entering the room and rolling her eyes when she spots Mitch and Willy at the back of the classroom. They're swatting their hands at each other and laughing raucously. The teacher pays them no mind, he probably doesn't want to be here either. Violet doesn't blame him, neither does she.
