Both you and Sombra stood on the spot for a moment, neither of you really knowing what to say to the man before you. Doomfist hardly ever left his office, and if he did it was never to stroll around the dormitories of grunts like you. You knew that you had gathered a little more faith from your recent successes, but surely not enough for a personal visit.
Realising that you were keeping him waiting, you nudged Sombra slightly, and the two of you slowly began to walk forwards, unsure of what to expect.
"Ah, good. You've arrived. I do so hate waiting around when there are other matters to attend to. Well, do not just stand there, invite me in" Akande said in a commanding voice, gesturing to the door of your dormitory.
With a stern face and a serious tone, he was unreadable. He could be angry, or he could simply have a new task for you. It was impossible to know which. If he's found out about the memory drive...we're dead.
While these thoughts rushed through your head, Sombra stepped forwards and unlocked the door, letting Akande stroll in first. The two of you quickly followed him, subtly glancing around the room to make sure that you had not left anything incriminating on show.
"Lo siento for the mess. We...didn't expect to have company...especially from Talon high command" Sombra apologised, moving a few disarrayed magazines from the sofa.
Akande curled his nose up, shaking his head with a sigh.
"That is clear to see. I have some news, and I thought it best to break it to you...in person" he answered, and still you could not tell why he was here.
"Do you have another mission for us?" you questioned, hoping that he said yes.
If it wasn't a new mission, then he was here for an altogether different reason, and that possibility terrified you.
"Of sorts...it relates to the data you recovered in Oasis. Until now, we have been operating under the belief that nobody at Vishkar had decrypted the data yet. But our analysis of the information you sent us suggests that a copy was made...most likely just a few minutes before you deleted the local version" Akande explained, pacing slowly around the room.
You gave Sombra a nervous glance, how had he found out about the drive? You quickly checked your pockets, feeling the USB drive still sat there safely. Maybe there was a chance he didn't know it was you.
"Is there any way we can find out who it was?" Sombra questioned, subtly moving against the wall towards her machine pistol which was sitting on a nearby table.
"There is no need, we already know. We have a mole inside Vishkar, a man called Sanjay Korpal. He knew what the data was about, and he knows its importance. We have not received any demands from him yet, but he is the only possible culprit" Akande stated, causing you to breathe a slight sigh of relief.
Sombra stopped reaching for her weapon, lowering her shoulders.
"Alright...what's the mission then, jefe?" the hacker asked, causing Akande to smile oddly.
He glanced between you and Sombra, as if he were contemplating something.
"Actually, I place this operation under Y/N's command, though you are welcome to help. It is simple, Korpal must be eliminated and his copy of the data must be retrieved. We can only hope that he has not shown it to others, if he has...the entire initiative is at risk. Travel to Utopaea, kill Korpal and bring me that data. Succeed...and you will have earned my trust" Akande explained, turning to you expectantly.
You remained silent for a moment, glancing between Sombra and Doomfist, before nodding your head slowly.
"If that's what Talon needs...then that's what I'll do. We'll leave in an hour" you stated, provoking a nod of approval from Akande.
